Pregant and what to ride????

You can look at the park maps for the attractions with warnings - they are marked with a red triangle on the map and also on a sign at the entrance to the queue.
For Epcot here are the attractions with warnings:
  • Mission Space
  • Test Track
For Magic Kingdom:
  • Splash Mountain
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Tomorrowland Indy Speedway
  • Space Mountain
  • Goofy's Barnstormer
For Disney Studio
  • Star Tours
  • Rock N Roller Coaster
  • Tower of Terror
For Animal Kingdom:
  • Kilimanjaro Safari
  • Kali River Rapids
  • Expedition Everest
  • Primeval Whirl
  • Dinosaur

Soarin' doesn't have any warnings that would affect pregnancy; just heights and possibly motion sickness.

The Safari and Kali River Rapids are listed because you can get unexpected hard bumps and drops during the course of the ride. As someone mentioned, the Safari is less bumpy closer to the front, but it is still bumpy. We sit in the front seat because youngest DD needs to stay in her wheelchair; we still get bounced around a lot. It all depends on which ruts your ride car hits.

G forces are the reason for not riding Splash Mountain. The big drop takes you down at a very extreme angle at a high rate of speed (I think you get to 40 mph). At the bottom, your ride car stops abruptly. That sort of combination of fast speed drop at an extreme angle and then abrupt stop can theoretically cause placental abruption - where the placenta actually peels away from the wall of the uterus. That's the main reason for warnings at Splash Mountain.
For rides like Dinosaur, Star Tours, Test Track, Big Thunder Mountain you are not moving that fast, but experience sudden changes of direction that jerk you around a lot.

And I would agree with the comment about vaccuuming.
Miscarriages are not the only thing that can happen during pregnancy. My youngest DD has Cerebral Palsy. I didn't do knowingly do anything that was 'dangerous' . I still feel guilty sometimes for her condition, even though I did nothing to cause the problem.

im curios, what exactly at guest services did they tell her? did they just hand her the rides list? on it it says where there are warnings. just curious.

Yeah, sorry that I wasn't very clear with that! I think they handed her either a list of stuff she could ride or list of those she could not. I'm sure it's the same list as the one below (and the one that's found on various websites if you google pregnancy and Disney World), so it's probably the same idea.

I agree with the pp, that WDW will be there even after the pregnancy, so for me, I'd rather stick to their restrictions (which are FAR LESS than most amusement parks), at least past the 2nd trimester when the baby isn't quite as protected. If something DID happen, I would have a hard time not blaming myself (even if it was truly unrelated), so we'll have a great time with the tamer rides and shows and things like that.

Thanks, Sue and Avon.

The point, from my doctor and from me, was why take an unnecessary chance with your health and your baby's health?

And no, I didn't vacuum while pregnant. And I didn't ride any rides with warnings. Not a personal choice for me, but a medical choice, and I didn't consider it extreme.

I think if Disney was operating under the CYA mentality, they'd have expectant warnings on the park tickets. I'm confident there is science, not just litigation concerns, behind the rides with warnings.

Ok, so I went to the doctors today and got my limitations for the trip!!!!!

First off, my doctor has been to disney before so she knew what rides I was talking about. She said for me being 16 weeks I could do soarin', potc, and test track. I know a lot of people don't think test rack but she said that it isnt too bad considering I don't get motion sickness. She of couse said no to roller coasters or drops or motion simulators but besides that she said it was all good. So I'm all set to go now!!!!!!!!1

The list I posted is from Disney's Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities. There is one for each park and there is a link to the text from them in post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread (link in my signature).

I also posted links to the park maps so you can see how the warnings are posted. In addition, each attraction has a sign at the entrance to the queue that lists the name of the attraction and any warnings.
The rides with warnings also have a sign before you get to the boarding area.

These are the attractions with official warnings, but some websites list additional ones based on feedback from their readers. I know some websites list the Teacups because some readers with morning sickness said the spinning made them sick and some later in pregnancy said that it was difficult to get in and they felt unsteady getting off because of the spinning.

I went when I was 24 weeks pregnant for 11 days. And I rode POTC with no issues. Soarin too. It is very gentle and relaxing to me. But I wouldn't ride any of the mountains and definitely not kali river rapids! If you are iffy just dont do it. If it was earlier on I might have but not when baby is already cramped for space and being rocked around a bit. True daily activities require movements but to me riding some of the attractions just wasn't worth it. I still had a fantastic time there...sooo many other things to do! :goodvibes

Was in WDW twice this year pregnant.

Didn't do Soarin', but probably wouldn't do it if I wasn't pregnant....I get really bad motion sickness.

Went on POTC about 12 times. My advice on this ride is to ride closer to the back. You feel the drop more intensely in the front. Other than that, enjoy!

I wouldn't do TT, but if your doc says Ok, then I'm sure you'll be fine!

Have a great time! I always do and never feel like I'm missing out on anything!:goodvibes

.

it was probably neither, but a list of the recommendations, which would just be a map i think. i think the maps say which ones have warnings, right?
i only asked because they actually cant say she cant ride anything. she could be 9 mo pregnant and want to ride towere of terror and as long as she fits in the seat they have to let her ride. so anyway, i was just kind of curious what they would say to someone who asked what they can ride.

Not to hijack or anything, but what does everything think about Goofy's Barnstormer at MK while pregnant?

Hey Lauren! Nice to see you outside our normal thread!:thumbsup2

I personally wouldn't do G's Barnstormer. To me, it's still a roller coaster and I am very careful with what I do while pregnant. Although, this probably stems from having difficult pregnancies!:goodvibes

I guess the way I look at it is, we have our entire lives to choose to ride these attractions. We are only pregnant for 9 months. It's really not a long time to give up some things we love. After all, isn't that what motherhood is all about.....making sacrifices for the good of our children.

A big fat NO on that one...it is a "tame" roller coaster, but a pretty rough, jerky ride. Let the kids ride w/ dad!

That's what I was thinking too. DH had asked whether or not that was on the banned list and I couldn't find the info anywhere! It just seems odd that they don't have a warning on that one! :confused3

Climb aboard Goofy's crop-duster for a ride around the cornfields. This kooky kid-friendly coaster is a kick! Take off from Goofy's barn, zip your way around a fun-filled course and see if you can make a landing without setting off those chickens!

I rode quite a few when I was 6 months pg with the twins! I didn't ride any roller coasters, of course. I rode soarin' and the only mistake was when I rode Kilimanjaro Safari for the second time in the last seat! Go only in the front as I was miserable holding myself up trying not to keep getting bounced around!!! I had fun-free dining when appetizers were free, too so Disney lost money on me that week:rotfl2:

I missed Goofy's Barnstormer. It is listed on the map as pregnant women should not ride, but it didn't have the same warning icon as the other attractions. They probably left off the icon because the only warning is for pregnant women not to ride.

:thumbsup2 Awesome! Thanks for finding that for me!

You're probably right. I know I'd seen it in some places, but not others.
