My last OB appointment was Friday and my OB mentioned that she was concerned because I was measuring much larger than I should be for gestational age. I am at 27 weeks as of yesterday and while I certainly feel bigger at this point in my pregnancy than I did with DS I thought that was normal with 2nd babies. I sure did start showing much earlier this time around.

We are pretty darn sure about the due date because I knew when my LMP was and I have had 3 ultrasounds that all matched up with my calculated due date. I just had my last ultrasound on Tuesday and that doctor (not my OB) said that the baby was 2 pounds and that was within normal range.

She wants to see me back on November 10th. I am due for my glucose screening test next week and she wants to make sure I have it done so she will have the results for my next appointment. She also said that she will probably want to have another ultrasound taken in a few weeks if I am still measuring large.

Has anyone ever had this before? I do know that gestational diabetes can make you have a large baby - does that translate into larger fundal height measurements? I also didn't think that you could have diabetes with one pregnancy and not the others. I had preeclampsia with my first but no sign of diabetes and DS was a small little guy - definitely not a large baby.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I've been measuring larger, too. I know EXACTLY when I conceived, but I personally have been measuring larger than that so far. The first u/s, the baby was right on target for the EDD, but this second one he was measuring a week ahead almost. (And trust me, if I ovulated a week early, there would have been no conception! ;) )

To add to that, I haven't gained very much weight yet! So I'm not sure what's going on. But my OB doesn't seem too worried about it (yet), so I'm not worrying (yet!)

There has to always be something to worry about.

I have had issues with weight this pregnancy also. I am only up about 7 pounds total so I know that is not the reason I am measuring bigger. It isn't just extra fat.

I really don't know what is going on but it has me really nervous. :(

My doctor freaked me out throughout my whole pregnancy telling me, every time he measured me, "Oh, you have a very small baby!" Or......"Wow, you are measuring small........how far along are you again?" I mean, it freaked me out to the point that I was sure there was something wrong with the baby. My doctor also followed up by saying that I had a small pelvis and would have trouble delivering anything over 6 lbs, but not to worry becauase the baby was so small, six pounds was the largest she would be.

Ummm, she was 8 POUNDS, 9 OUNCES! And yes, she got stuck coming out.

The whole point here is that sometimes the readings taken from the measurings aren't accuarate, so don't freak out too much about them.

I have read that you start showing earlier with second preganancies becasue your body has already been through it once.

I did not start gaining weight consistently until I was 5 1/2-6 months. You couldn't even tell I was PG. I ended up gaing 45 lbs. :)
