Preffered Room

Depends on which resort you're talking about. The only Value I'd pay for a preferred room at is AS Music because of the way the resort is built going straight back. No way would I want to be stuck way out in that last building. Theother Values are pretty much built around the main building and some of the standard rooms are closer than some of the preferred rooms. The only moderate I might consider paying for a preferred room is PORS and that's only because it would guarantee me a room in one of the AB buildings close to the main building and pool (I don't care for the mansion section). At Deluxes I'd pay the extra for a pool view at AKL because a pool view is only like $10.00 more a night than a standard, but I'd not necessarily pay the extra for a savanna room. Otherwise no, I'd not pay more for a preferred room anywhere else. POFQ is so small, no room is very far from anything else, so definitely not worth it there. At CSR the preferred rooms are in Casitas 1, 2, and 3. I prefer the Cabana section anyway and none of them are very far from the main building and are closer to the main pool. I might consider paying for a preferred room at CBR just because the resort is so big, but really the rooms in Aruba and Jamaica are not that far from the main building if you go over the bridge. Back when the rooms in Trinidad South were standard (before they changed them to pirate rooms, I'd have paid for a preferred room just to make sure I didn't get stuck way over there), but now the standard rooms at CBR are not that bad. I stayed at the YC in a standard room in Dec '10 and was like only maybe 2-3 minutes from the boat dock in a great first floor room that faced the quiet pool. Again it would just depend on which resort you are talking about.

Ditto; you have to look at the resort configuration.

POR and CBR are the same size overall, but configured totally differently. I have stayed in both. There are more rooms closer to the main building at POR than CBR. The farthest out rooms are at CBR; with POR a close second.

If you really need to be close to the main building, then yes, you want to guarantee it - then book it.

If you are willing to stay in a part of the resort that may only be another 3 - 8 minute walk, you are okay.

If you don't want to risk it in a resort that is laid out so there is the chance you could be in a really remote location from the main building, then book it.

For my home resort, at POR, the AB buildings are the only preferred category, and I prefer the mansions. Most of the mansions are still close enough to the main building, I am okay with that. So I never book preferred.

I agree it depends on what resort you are looking at. We have always done preferred at ASMusic until this past October. It was just DH & I so we went with what was available and were lucky enough to be in Jazz. If we went in July again, I would still pony up for preferred. It's too hot then to schlepp back to Country!

Well, I am going to say yes it is worth it to me, especially when traveling with children. Plus my DH likes coffee from the food court each morning so I like to be close by so that I can run get it real quick.

On our first trip to Disney years ago we stayed at ASSports and we were way in the back. I hated it.

Our next trip we stayed at CCB and we were what seemed like miles from the food court. I hated it.

Then I learned about preferred rooms. It has been great since. :goodvibes
