Just confirmed on the wait-list
(It does work!!)
for a preferred view room at the BW
what does preferred view mean for the DVC?
Thanks...

Preferred view is only applicable to the Boardwalk Villas.

It means water, which may be the bay on the boardwalk, one of the swimming pools, or the canal leading down to MGM.

Also keep in mind that the "Preferred View" by defination does not a room with a view of the Boardwalk...

"Preferred View" tends to mean, not "Standard View"... Which equates to any room in the house that does not have a view of the parking lot.

I once heard a statistic that Preferred View rooms make up 75% of the BWV inventory.

That is true (and than a little more)

BWV
97 Dedicated Studios
130 Dedicated 1Bdrm
0 Dedicated 2Bdrm - 149 Lockoffs
7 Grand Villas = 383 Units / 532 Max. Available Rooms

Standard View
Studios 22% of total 241 studios
One Bedrooms 23% of 272 total one bedrooms
Two Bedrooms 25% of 145 two bedrooms

CRobin - "It means water" is that definetly true? I thought it meant non parking lot or entrance. "Water" is my mom's thing and if I new that I would probably spring for the extra points for her

Thanks
Sandy

Friends who just sailed on one of the Disney cruises said a CM on the boat told them the Boardwalk view categories were about to change. There are supposedly going to be 3 now: Boardwalk view, preferred view ( I guess garden/pool?), and standard view. I guess too many folks who pay for "preferred" are disappointed when they don't get the Boardwalk view.

It will be interesting to see if this "rumor" comes true. Our friends were excited about it as they thought their usual view request -- pool -- would actually come down a few points.

Was that for the Inn or the Villas?

I didn't think they could modify the point ranges that drasticly by law...

I would think that the reallocation would increase standard view rooms than or I guess they could make Boardwalk even higher and preferred in the middle. I hope not or my GV family reunion is going to be out of the question.

Would they actually go through the "hastle" of point reallocation over this or is not a big deal to DVC. I would think the information costs, training people, reset of guest expectations etc. would be pretty expensive.

Having said that and not having stayed at BWV, I do not see how a view of the canal/Swan resort would be a preferred view

Thanks

Sandy - I stand corrected. This is from the DVC Member Guide:

"Preferred view" includes views of the boardwalk, pools, water, or garden.

So it would appear that you could get a Preferred View that doesn't necessarily look right out onto the water.

I was also told in May that they will be changing the reservations systems concerning Boardwalk views. I didn't ask a whole lot of questions but now wish I would have. It was my limited understanding that point values will not change, but if you request a boardwalk view when making your reservation you will know immediately if you will receive it. The CM stated that they are doing this because so many people request the Boardwalk view and then are disappointed upon check in when they don't receive it. Sorry again i didn't ask for more information, maybe someone else can shed more light on this.

I requested boardwalk view on my first reservation at 11 months and got quiet pool. After that, I didn't want to waste points on preferred view if I wasn't guaranteed boardwalk. Did standard view the past 2 years and loved the Illuminations view. I also loved saving points. If I could be guaranteed boardwalk view that would make my decision harder! Another point - would people be calling day by day for that boardwalk view?
