Is there any reason for me to reserve a preferred view room at Pop? Will I just be closer to the main building and bus stop?

It would get you in the closest buildings, but staying there before... all buildings are pretty close. The preferred buildings though are 10.00 per night extra....

I have something to add to my original question. We can afford to either stay 8 nights at Pop or 6 nights at Pop and 1 night at Animal Kingdom Lodge (not savanna view). Should I go for the 8 night vacation at Pop or the 7 night vacation at AKL/Pop?

If you stay in a Preferred Room at Pop you are also right next to what is considered the best of the hotel's pools...the Hippy Dippy Pool. In answer to your 2nd question...my family would opt for the 8 night stay at POP...anything to have more time in Disney!

:wave2: I agree- more time in Disney, go for the 8 nights at POP. Just go over and visit the AKL and have a meal there instead. Maybe you can work it into your next vacation to stay at AKL or do a longer split stay. I wouldnt change for just one night. :wave2:

We just booked at the Pop and chose to stay in the Preferred rooms. From reading reviews on-line we saw the preferred rooms were closer to the bus', food court area and pools. Our thought was after a long day at WDW world walking all over, it would be worth it to stay closer to the resorts amenities. We hope we made the right choice, but either way we will be a WDW.

I wouldn't waste the extra $10 per night. The preferred buildings are not that much closer.

I did the same exact thing. I will have to decide for myself if it was worth it once we get there. If it isn't it's not a huge amount of money. I guess we'll see how it turns out.

We received a free upgrade to a preferred room when we were there 2 weeks ago--we liked being closer to the food court and bus stop, but none of the buildings are very far. I wouldn't pay the extra $10 for it. The view is no better than other buildings, BTW.

I stayed at POP in March and had a room facing the Bowling pin pool. Since the parks were open late, people came back for a late night swim. In fact, my first night I checked in around 1:30 AM (really delayed flight) and people were still in the pool. The room didn't filter out the noise very well so some nights it was difficult to get to sleep. So if a preferred room means additional noise, it wouldn't be worth it to me. But overall, I enjoyed my stay at POP.

In answer to your second question, DEFINITELY stay the extra night!

That said, put it to a vote in your family and then do whatever they prefer.

If you've never been to AKL before, it might be best to do as blessedby3 recommended and go visit it before staying there.

If you have visited it before, and that's what made you want to stay there, then put it up for a vote.

Good luck and enjoy the trip!

I paid for a preferred room at POP and I was glad I did, and got ground floor 60's building right near the pop jets. I wanted preferred mainly because then I could not be placed "out in the boonies" which is what usually happens when I book a standard view anywhere! I think whenever I stay at a value or a moderate for now on, I will pay for perferred or water view, just so I won't be out in the middle of nowhere!

When we stayed at pop we didn't get a preffered room and we were still pretty close to the food court, bus stop, etc. We were in the 50's buildings. On our last day we did walk all over the resort to get some photos and some of the rooms were a good walk from the main hall. If walking distance is an issue to you get the preffered. After the 7th day or so in the parks, those extra 100 or so yards can seem like a mile.

as far as pools, i loved the bowling pin pool, the hippy dippy is cute, but there was just something about the bowling pin that was awesome. The computer pool just didn't look fun at all.

We were there earlier this month and had 3 rooms-- 2 standard and 1 preferred. You will have to decide what matters more-- sleeping in a quiet room or saving the extra steps after a long day. My in-laws were kept awake in their preferred room for 2 nights while people partied for fall break. Of course, maybe that was a fluke and it was just a really busy time. I preferred the extra steps to my quiet, lake-view rooms. I also preferred saving $140. I'm not sure how they factored in the price of that since we stayed for 10 nights but the preferred room cost my in-laws $140 more. Perhaps the cost of tax. Certainly not worth the money. By the way, the hippy-dippy pool is fun to visit a few times because that's where all the action is, so just walk there. It takes about 1 extra minute. We liked the bowling pin pool because there were hardly any people in it, ever. It's fun to have a choice though. I'd say save the $10 and spend it in the parks.

We were in a 70's building this past September. The room was almost at the very end of the building. I would hve died for a room in the preferred buildings. My feet were hurting so badly by the end of the day. It was torture having to walk as far as we had to each night. Next time, it is preferred for us.

We're staying at POP in January for a Fri-Sat before our DVC stay at OKW. We will probably spend most of our arrival day at the resort and also return on Saturday afternoon to hang out. Right now, we have a standard room booked. Since we are only staying for 2 nights, an extra $20 (approx) to upgrade to a preferred room really is a drop in the bucket.

Do you think we should 1) upgrade now to minimize the walking we'll have to do with our 2 DD's (ages 2 & 4 at time of travel); 2) stick with the standard room and request an upgrade at check-in (we're arriving 1/25/08); or 3) not worry about having a preferred room at all and just save the $20?

I figure that we'll want to spend some time at kiddie pool and splash jets if the weather is OK, but otherwise the girls will want to play on the playground. I'd like a room close to the playground and the food court and I think the preferred category is what will fit the best. But, since we'll only be there for 2 days, I think the extra walking from a standard room will be tolerable. Any thoughts from you POP experts?

Well.. you've got it pretty well in hand.

I personally don't see a lot of value in 'preferred' rooms. But I don't travel with kids, I think you might! :)

Request a room in the 50's. Not prefered location. The two times I have stayed at Pop, I have stayed in the 50's section. (not facing pool so no noise). It is a very short walk to the foodcourt and bus stop. I think the 50's has a prefered location but i stayed in the non prefered area and it was a great location.

It's more of a preferred location as opposed to view.

I'd not ever spend the money for one. The last two locations I had were awesome, although I like to walk so it'd not have been a problem for me to be further out either. I was in building 3, overlooking the bowling pin pool. Loved that area! And the last time, I could see the foosball court out my window. Very nice as well. Both within a 3 minute walk of the food court.
