Just curious about the preferred method of travel from North East US and Canada to WDW.

After driving to WDW from New England, my family would vote for always driving. We had a great trip. We never really liked to fly but did until this trip. In fact, we had always planned to drive this trip just to see what it would be like and to see the sights. It is the only way to go for us now.

Anything but the train! ARG! We hated the train ride!

We've always flown and been able to get decent rates. However, since we hope to become DVC members, we'll be going more often. Would like to start driving every other visit or so. So I guess we fall smack dab in the middle.

I never have enough time to drive. It would take 2 days to drive. Since we usually go just for 5 or 6 days due to limited vacation time for hubby, it would not be possible.

If we did have the time, I am not sure I would like it. I prefer the few hours of flying and then I am there. Although, at some point if we were going for 2 weeks or so, I could possibly...but I would HATE the drive home!

I think the drive home would be the part that would play on most folks minds.
For me, time is precious and the drive to and from home (2 to 3 days in total) is just too much.
I also am curious to hear from the folks in favor of driving if the cost savings are really that great when you consider the elevated price for gas right now, possible hotel room (not counting the uncalculated wear and tear on your vehicle..........and your brain!;)

we used to drive Philly to Pittsburgh and back. That trip takes about 5 hours and believe me, I was at my limit by the time we reached our destination! I cannot fathom driving for 2 days to get to Fla.!

Since we have a lot of frequent flier miles, it has been a while since we've actually had to pay for more than one ticket. Given that our travel time (including waiting at the airport, retrieving checked luggage, rental car and drive to WDW) is about 5 hours, it would take a lot of convincing to get me to choose another mode of transportation.

AMTRAK! :) I, for one, love it! And have been taking it to WDW for the past 12 years. :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Whats the prices like for Amtrak?.
How long does it take?
Many stops?

On my nest trip I am thinking of travelling to Bufallo to get a cheaper flight than flights leaving from Canada

Drove from Annapolis, MD 2 1/2 years ago. It was a great drive -- roughly 13 hours. The nicest feature was that when we heard there was a big snowstorm headed for the East Coast (it was January), we were able to leave a day earlier with no added travel expense.

My biggest complaint was the lack of clean restroom facilities near the interstate.

We have always flown. But, next summer we plan on driving. We'll have a new van by then and want to drive down at least once. We plan on 2 days each way. After that, It'll be back to flying I believe.

We always fly from Pittsburgh. I'd never want to drive all that way. The farthest I've ever driven is 4 or 5 hours to Cedar Point and I was wiped out. Airfare has really dropped. I remember I paid around $280 each for our flights in 1996 & 1999. My trip next month is $160!

im laughing at the answer from Harambe. I have flown to disney and we have drivin. But we go Amtrak cause I will not fly. So we have gone the last 4 - 5 yrs. by train. Every year i say im gonna check out the sleeper , but they are way to exp. I dont mind the beginning of the trip, but we stop in Wash. for 2 1/2 hrs. So by then my husband always says , If we flew we would be there by now.lol. And then on the way home we are so tired from the week that it doesnt seem as long. It is not my fav. ride, but its either TRAIN or NO DISNEY.lol. Im already looking into next year, if you book early you get better prices.

I'm just curious as to how much it actually does cost and how long it takes?

We always fly from Pittsburgh or Cleveland. We get non-stop flights for around $200 each and we always rather get FF miles to travel.

I have a hard time believing people when they say they rather spend 2 days in a car to get to Florida.......then be wiped out when you get there............and the same on the way back.........hotel,gas,food,etc............

We have always flown from Boston and I don't believe we have ever paid more than $225 R/T. We purchased DVC last year and are now considering driving Fall 2004. Annmarie
