preferred campsite question

What is the real difference in a tent site and a preferred site? We booked 4 days in October for a tent site but now I think maybe I should upgrade.

We are a family of 4 with a dome tent, kids playtent and a shade structure. My kids will be 4 and 9-so proxmity to playground and pool is important to them. My husband would really like to upgrade our dome tent to a more family friendly tent you can stand it so a larger site may be helpfull.

Do you think we will be fine on the tent site or should we upgrade? I would be happy to pay extra if it means a better location or if the tent sites are tiny but I don't want to pay for something we don't need...

The tent sites are huge!! Not a problem there.

If you upgrade to a preferred, while it is a great location, you run the risk of having a very small "sand pad" for your tents and shelters.

Request Loop 1500 and tell them you need a LARGE tent area. Some of the tent areas in 1500 have trees in weird places.

Loop 1500 will put you right across the street from the trading post, campfire, pool, and bike barn.

The only downside is that 1500 may be full when you arrive or the only available sites in 1500 have the weird trees. Then you will be placed in 2000 which is kind of isolated.

Thanks! That's the kind of info I was looking for. Do they assign your campsite when you check in? We will be driving so It will certainly be late afternoon at the earliest.

Actually, they assign your site a few days before arrival, but you are not told until you arrive.

Not a problem to arrive late afternoon. The check-in desk is open 24/7.
