Hi, I am just after some information on the discounts I would get for having the preferred annual pass for the Universal parks.

I know I would get a discount on food purchases, merchandise, theme park tickets and onsite hotel stays but how much is the discount for each of these?

I am just trying to calculate things and the Ap would be approx $130 more than the 3 day park to park ticket for me so I will get the AP for me and I will just buy the 3 day tickets for the others. This will allow me to get the discounts am I right?

Also if I purchase the AP now, how long will it remain valid before I have to use it in Orlando? Not going until 2014.

Any info would be greatly appreciated :-)

There is always the 10% discount on food and merchandise. The discount on hotels is usually about 30 but remember that the discount is not always available. In busy times, it may not be offered at all.

Thanks Damo. We will be there in may which I have read is not too busy a time so hopefully there will be a APH discount for the rooms!!

Is there a discount on theme park tickets also?

First, make sure there's an APH discount for the time you're going. They release them as they choose; for instance, right now they are only up to August with the AP discounts, but I'm sure most of us expect them to offer them for later months as the weeks go by.

You can go here, and in the "code" field put "APH". If there's an APH rate for the days you're going on the day you check, it will show up. If there's no APH rate at that time for those dates, it won't. But check back.

If you don't need the AP otherwise, unless you are HUGE souvenir-buyers or will be hosting many people's meals, I personally wouldn't buy the AP unless and until the rate comes up.

If/when it comes up, book it, and then, at your leisure, buy an AP online. Or at the parks. When you check in, they will let you know when you need to show them the actual AP.

The AP will be good from the day you use it until the same date the following year.

There is a discount for normal tickets, but the discount is off of the gate ticket price. You can get better deals buying them online ahead of time, or even buying through a discount site like undercovertourist.com.
