So, we are a traveling family of 7 all together and will be bringing a stroller for our toddler.

We prefer not to check any baggage. Where can I find info on baggage limits for "carry-on"?

Does a diaper bag or purse count as a carry on?

Thank You

You will have no place to store your luggage until your room is ready and they must be able to fit in the x-ray at the security check. We are just 2 and no way would our luggage fit and if you plan to eat when you embark your bags would take up too much space at the buffet.

Also, if you are traveling at a busy time and the flight is booked they will advise passengers to gate check their carry-on bags. This happened many times when I flew last month. Don't forget about the rules for liquids when flying.

Here is Delta's policy:

TSA's recently announced changes to its Prohibited Items list, including allowing small pocket knives on aircraft, has been temporarily delayed. For more information, visit tsa.gov.

ONE BAG. ONE ITEM. NO CHARGE.
We know, you’ve probably heard it before, but just in case you need a reminder: you’re allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item at no extra charge. Just make sure they fit into the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you. Cram sessions are not pretty — and they slow things down.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS ALLOWED?
Approved Personal Items

  • 1 purse, briefcase, camera bag or diaper bag
  • or 1 laptop computer (computers cannot be checked)
  • or 1 item of a similar or smaller size to those listed above
Additional Approved Items

The following items do not count as personal items (they’re freebies):

  • A jacket or umbrella
  • Food or drink purchased after clearing the security checkpoint
  • Duty-free merchandise
  • Special items like strollers, child restraint seats or assistive devices such as wheelchairs or crutches
CARRY-ON SIZE RESTRICTIONS
It won’t fit. Three words you don’t want to hear when trying to board. To avoid delays and possible checked bag fees, follow these size requirements:

  • Baggage may not exceed 45 linear inches (or 114 cm) in combined length, width and height, including any handles and wheels, with the exception of small musical instruments that fit in the overhead compartment space or under-seat space available at the time of boarding
  • Baggage must fit easily in the Carry-on Baggage Check (approximately 22" x 14" x 9" or 56 x 35 x 23 cm), which is located near the check-in counters
Passengers traveling on Delta Connection flights, and only those flights with fifty (50) seats or less, are only permitted to carry personal items on board the aircraft due to limited overhead space. Personal items must be able to fit securely under the seat in front of the passenger. All carry-on bags within Delta's size restrictions will be gate checked, free of charge, during the boarding process and returned upon deplaning. Please ensure that a pink Gate Claim/Planeside tag is securely attached to the carry-on item. Assistive devices are not subject to this restriction.

If you need information about items such as knitting needles or razors, please consult the TSA websiteopens in a new window.

CARRY-ON WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
No maximum weight applies to carry-on baggage except in the below stations:

  • Singapore, Singapore - Changi International Airport (SIN) carry on should not exceed 15 lbs. (7kgs)
  • South Korea - Incheon International Airport (ICN) carry on should not exceed 22 lbs. (10kgs)
  • Beijing, China - Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) carry on should not exceed 22 lbs. (10kgs)
  • Shanghai, China - Pudong International Airport (PVG) carry on should not exceed 22lbs. (10kgs)

DCL has more lax rules on number of bags than the airlines. You can check as many as you wish; you can carry-on as many as you wish BUT there are no luggage carts or porters to help and you will need to schlep those bags around the ship with you until staterooms open at 1:30pm. Any carry-ons must fit through the luggage scanner, I believe it's approx. 22 x 14 x 9 (similar to airline carry-on size).

Are you flying or driving to port? I would find it challenging to carry-on for the whole family when flying as it can be hard to find overhead bins for that many suitcases, and wrangling kids. But I have heard of others who make it work, especially if the kids are old enough to manage their own bags.

Enjoy your cruise!

We are two adults who have done carry-on only for trips of up to 14 days. We each have a rolling-duffel with packing cubes for the overhead and a backpack for under the seat (purse needs to be in the backpack when entering the plane). We do laundry every 5 days or so.

That being said, how many in your party can carry their own bags? If you are holding a baby and diaper bag, someone would need to help with your bags.

We did a trip when the kids were young (elementary school-age) and each had a carefully packed backpack and small carry-on bag with snacks and things to keep busy on the flight. You could pack their outfits and clothing into ziplocs to keep them organized and make things easier to keep track of in the stateroom.

Good luck!

I would not want to schlep around luggage for 7 and a stroller around a cruise ship. You will find it hard to navigate yourselves around (narrow corridors, tiny elevators, crowds....) and finding a place to eat lunch in Cabanas with all that stuff will be extremely difficult. Just pack your essentials in a tote bag or small suitcase. I usually bring a change of clothes and toiletries onto the ship with me in case my luggage is not delivered before dinner. I want to freshen up after sweating all afternoon in the sun.

A carry on must fit through the scanner. Max size 22X14X9. You may carry on as many bags as you can wrangle. You'll have to keep those bags with you until the rooms are ready (around 1:30).

Is there a reason WHY you don't want to check bags? Its free to check them (unlike the airport). Are you afraid they won't make it on the ship?

We are driving straight to the Port, so I'm not concerned with a transfer or anything, but I know it's been reported that your luggage is kind of just tossed around and thrown in a pile. Too much could go wrong with that, and I don't handle "mistakes/change" very well especially away from home! Just trying to avoid a potential broken item or damaged luggage.

My father in law wants to avoid porters, lol

We have the 21" spinners, so it may fit.

I didn't read anything about purse or diaper bag considered a carry on?

Anything you carry on is a "carry on".

Since you have unlimited carry-ons (as stated quite a few times), everything is considered a carry-on but it doesn't matter.

You can't get into your cabin until after 1:30. I would suggest arriving at the port after 1:00. This way you can go put you bags in your cabin once you arrive.

Also FYI the elevators are very small and can be very crowded especially on the 1st day. You may have to take different elevators to get to your cabin.

One more thing.... you may want to enter the terminal from the 3rd floor of the parking garage. If you enter from the 1st floor in the terminal the main way up to the 3rd floor is an escalator. Once again there are elevators but they are small. The elevators in the parking garage are larger to accommodate people with their luggage.

I would carry-on anything breakable, but drop the rest. It is crazy to lug that stuff around when they will bring it right to your room. The elevators from about noon to the safety drill are an absolute nightmare. 7 people bringing all their luggage are going to spend a lot of time and frustration just getting up to the room. If you just drop-off the clothes, I'm sure they can't break anything. There is no way I would carry-on anything that I couldn't physically carry up the stairs from deck 3 to my assigned floor. Dealing with the elevators is crazy and nobody is going to help you or feel sorry for you because they are all in the same boat (no pun intended).

TY all for the input, I will be more aware while packing, and wrap anything I'm worried about in bubble wrap, LOL!!
