Prednisone, aaargh!

Thanks for the good vibrations. I'm definitely allergic to something; these hives are still going strong. I went through something similar about 5 years ago, when I had 2 anaphylactic reactions in 3wks(cranberries and red wine!) But this time the rash has been much slower to respond. I'm not putting anything on it because it's so itchy & raw--even soap and water burns. Aveeno helps a little. I'm leaving it open, except when I go outside I wear long sleeves. My DH has been taking prednisone for almost 2yrs now--he says, "welcome to my world." Ugh! He promised to share his tranquilizers with me tonight at bedtime, haha.

Now if I can just not off my 18yo...

I hope you get better soon. :flower: I hate prednisone, I have to be on it for my whole life! I've been taking it since I was 8 and I hate it! I find that I get tired during the day really easily and at night I can't sleep at all. I hope you don't have to take it for too long. :)

Add me to the "I Hate Prednisone Club". I've been on it for three weeks for a moderately severe asthma attack. I'm eating like crazy, can't sleep at all, cleaning the house even in the middle of the night, speaking so fast no one can understand me, hyper as hyper can be but I can breathe. It's a love hate relationship with Prednisone for me. It's a life saver for my asthma but the side effects are awful.

I'm coming off it now so I should be crashing, exhausted and tired for the next month even at tapering doses.

Hmmmmm Well I've only been on Prednisone twice for my asthma and thought it was great. The first time I was soooooo hoping to be crabby and all. Was doing 2 12 hour shifts on the weekend and what a great excuse. Instead I had boundless energy and felt like flying. And my knee didn't hurt at all. Was on it about 1 to 2 weeks starting at 60 mg.

The second time I had to go to an Infection Control Practioners conference and was coughing my head off from my asthma, right after the whole SARS thing. 60 mg for a week before I tapered. Yes I ate more but I was in San Antonio, what a great place to eat. With all the extra energy I didn't gain a thing. My poor sister and coworker though. We would go to bed around 12 or 1 am and I would fall right to sleep but bounce up by 5 am ready to go. We went to Sea World one day, got there when it opened and kept going for a few hours. We finally stopped for lunch, they were saying how great it was to sit down. I agreed for about 5 minutes, then was up and bouncing lets go, lets go. We opened and closed the place, set in the splash zone right up front. Wow it was fun. I'm suprised, looking back, they didn't kill me.

Now of course I didn't have what sounds like a very nasty rash, and certainly being a nurse I understand long term consequences. For me, short term its wonderful. Asthma under control and all my side effects, for me were positive except for I was really looking for a good excuse to be crabby, but I just felt too good.
