Preacher endorsing a Candidate???

Totally off topic, but I didn't realize until this week that the SC party primaries aren't held on the same day.

Why is that? :confused3

I'm guessing the Republican and Democratic parties set their own dates for the primaries...sounds expensive to do it that way...

According to this website I found there are 12 states that hold the D & R primaries on separate dates. I never knew! And I agree - sounds like an expensive (and wasteful) way to do it.

I have heard priests telling the congregation who to vote for in catholic masses more times than I can count, and not always at the same parish.

I've never heard it in over 40 years and my Mom never heard it in nearly 70 years. In fact, I don't know anyone among my Catholic friends and family that ever have. Maybe they never did it in NJ? :confused3 I only lived in PA for 4 years, and I never heard it out there either. Mom said she's heard a couple of weird comments on issues by Priests since she moved to Florida, but no direct endorsements. One Priest said that the "people who have Parkinson's should just offer up their suffering to Christ, they shouldn't destroy embryos to get stem cells." Bad enough he said that-but it's a RETIREMENT community-how many of his congregants HAVE Parkinson's? Talk about insensitive.

I don't like strong arming for votes-I don't care if it's religious leaders or union leaders. People shouldn't vote for a candidate because they're afraid of losing their jobs, people shouldn't vote for a candidate because their Priest or Minister told them that it would be a sin not to. Anyone who does that should lose their tax exempt status due to voter intimidation.

I have lived in NY and currently live in PA and have never heard a name mentioned. Issues, yes, names no.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to insinuate that there's not truth to your story. Just because it hasn't been my experience and I haven't heard any first hand accounts from friends or family in RL doesn't mean I don't believe it's gone on. I can certainly believe that there could be individual Priests out there who would take it upon themselves to go on a power trip and tell people who to vote for.
