Pre-trip report: Xmas 2007. Who else is going?!

I've been meaning to do this for a while, although I'm not sure if anyone else would enjoy reading my excited ramblings about my upcoming Dec. 21-30 Disney trip. Well, here it goes!

A little bit about my family... Although my family is mostly Jewish, I, along with my mom & children, celebrate Christmas. My late, great maternal grandmother was a British war bride who made sure that the Christmas tradition was kept alive in our family. We're basically an interfaith family who celebrate both Christian & Jewish holidays. Although many people in my family do not celebrate Christmas, I DO. The menorah & the dreidel share the stage with a LIVE Christmas tree & Santa.

Although my family & I have been to Disney 14 (?) times (I think! I've actually lost count over the years!), we have never been to DW over the holiday season. I've heard amazing things about Xmas at DW & I've also heard some less than amazing things, but, undaunted, I finally decided to take the plunge this year. Being an ER nurse in a busy urban hospital, getting time off over the holidays was no easy task. But I managed to snag one week & off we go!

Sadly, DH (I hesitate to call him that cos he does NOT share my rabid enthusiasm for all things Disney) will not be going... He couldn't get the time off & has no desire to battle the crowds. So he'll be at home (his family doesn't, never has, celebrated Xmas so it won't be a bit deal for him), holding down the fort i.e. shoveling snow. Don't feel too bad for him; he's looking forward to having the house ALL to himself for the first time in 23 years. Just as long as he cleans up after himself...

As for those of us who are going:
ME: over-worked trauma nurse, used to dealing with unruly crowds & unhappy people. Posts at weird times cos I've been on graveyard shift for 8 years. Let's say I'm old enough to know better, but still young enough to care
DM: the one who got me addicted to DW at such a young age... Age:21. After 42 years of teaching in Pittsburgh's public schools, she retired in July.
DD: senior in highschool. Disney FANATIC. Her wardrobe has been planned out since we booked back in May, but is subject to change every 3 minutes.
DS: sophmore at University of PA. Bringing along GF.
And someone EXTREMELY special... My DC(cousin). Cindy just joined our household in April after her mom unexpectly passed away. Cindy has Down's Syndrome, but is highly functional & a SEASONED Disney vet. LOVES the characters & plans on getting her picture taken with EVERY single one she encounters!

Accomodations: DS & DGF at All-Star Sports; the rest of us @ POP. We were going to do a moderate or deluxe, but since I'm paying for 5 people (and picky DH will be at home), we decided to go budget. Never been to POP- looking forward to it! Since we don't plan on spending a lot of time in the room, amenities don't matter. However, with 4 females in a room, things might get a bit tricky...

We're also on DDP, which has forced us to plan more than we ever have before. We made ADRs for the following: 12/21-Spoodles 6:45, 12/22-Chef Mickeys, 7:15, 12/23-Liberty Tree Tavern, 7:00, 12/24-Biergarten Candlelight package, 5:45, 12/25-1900 Park Fare, 5:00, 12/26- Boma, 7:00, 12/27-Mama Melrose Fantasmic 3:45, 12/28- Kona, & 12/29- Les Chefs de France. This should prove to be interesting as DD is an EXTREMELY picky eater. Lots of chicken fingers for her. The character buffets are for DC, who will probably be too excited to eat with all of the characters milling about.

That's as far as the planning goes... I'd love to hear from anyone else who'll be there at Xmas or has braved the Xmas rush. Any advice, especially on what to pack for that time of the year @ DW, would be greatly appreciated! Hope I didn't bore anyone to death!:)

We are going before Christmas, but it will be the first time for us to be there for the holidays! and, yea! for the values!

We are going for our 4th year in a row at this time...right after Thanksgiving...it is a great time to be there...love how everything is decorated for the holidays.

My DD will be eating Chicken Strips at every meal too...every time we go...and if they did not have it they were able to get it for her.

What a great thing you did bringing your DC to come live with you.

AAAWWWW! I'm assuming the adorable little girl in your avatar & signature is your DD. Of course they would give her chicken strips- how could they resist such a cutie?

Thank you for the comment about DC. We truly enjoy having her around. You should see her @ WDW! You'd swear she owned the place! lol
