Pre-Trip Report (long) Pixie Dust needed for Family Reunion

It all started in March. My mom was having surgery to remove a melanoma and my Dad, sis & I were waiting together. We were discussing how we regretted how a family reunion trip never materialized (my parents had been in a car accident last spring) and somehow we started talking about Disney. We went every year from when it opened until college tuitions got in the way (nine years straight!) I lived in FL for a short time and have brought my children twice. My sis & brother have never brought their families- sacrilege! So we decide to just do it & one thing leads to another… by April, I bought a resale for WL & rented points off this board and now have two 2bdrms & a studio reserved for 5 nights in Feb. at VWL. Well, the melanoma led to the discovery of a lung tumor and my mom told me to cancel the trip. But my dad caught me later and said to keep it, we'll tell her when she feels better! (Hope springs eternal!) Now here we are in Sept and so far my mother's tests are positive and she is getting better and stronger everyday. But my brother has backed out (the dope). I hate to admit this - but it’s a mixed blessing as I was nervous planning for such a large group and his kids are older (12,9,7) versus my sister's & mine (10, 6, 4 & 4) and our families although we get along unbelievably well, may not travel well. I haven't decided what to do - I might ask my point's owners to adjust our reservations to get an extra night - or my husband’s sister might be interested in picking up the other bdrm (although that would open up another whole can of worms!) (Super yikes!) I hoping the point owners can transfer to me (since I'm now an owner - I wasn't when this all started!) that would give the flexibility I need but I'll jump off that bridge when I have to.

Now the really exciting part – last night we were together for my nephew’s birthday and my Brother in law – who has been a vocal Disney doubter since the day my sister met him (but has other good qualities so she married him despite this handicap) – was all over me about what rides there are and what plans I’ve made and when should we start booking flights, etc. Unfortunately I haven’t gotten that detailed yet (we’re still five months out with a lot to be determined. He told me that he went to Disney when it was just the MK & Epcot was being built. Now here’s my favorite part – my dad got all animated about how wonderful Epcot is and was all into the science part and the international part. My dad is 74, walks with a cane and has some other health issues – but he sounded like a kid. I’ve always known where I got my Disney-itis; my father started me real young with biographies of Walt and the history behind all things Disney. Now I know all those trips when I was young weren’t just for us kids! I can’t wait to experience the magic with him again – I only wish my brother could see that too! (even with his high maintenance family).

So now I am super motivated about putting this all together. I’m holding onto plan A with the DVC rental – although it is tempting to cancel my brother’s villa and add the extra nights for the rest of us!

Next week Mom has another bone scan and we’ll get the lowdown on her prognosis – she seems great though, so we are all praying for the best. Until she’s gets this report, I’m reserved in my excitement...

Please send us some Pixie dust!

Lots of pixie dust and have a wonderful time. We just did a reunion of sorts with 14 of us and it was great.

Wishing you lots of pixie dust for your mother's health and your trip too. I lost my mother to cancer last year, so I know very well what you are going through. I wish I could've gotten Mom to go to WDW with me before she died.:(

We had an October trip planned when my mother had to go in for an unexpected surgery on August 28th. Long story short - she has Gall Bladder cancer but they "think" they got it all. So we are only delayed, at this point, till December.
I am sending you pixie dust and prayers that all will work out for your trip.
