I don't know if this is OK, but here goes.
I'm Kim, 48, single, very late discovering the wonder that is WDW. One trip with 9 family members that was wonderful. One trip with Mom that was fantastic and a quick weekend trip with a friend in the middle of a business trip to Tampa.
I'm no Mel HappyHaunt or ZZUB, but I'll try to be an OK writer.
I started planning a trip with a good friend May 2006. My first long trip in a couple of years. I shared a quick weekend with my friend last year and we were going to give a long trip a try. 10 days of WDW bliss.
I hadn't been feeling great. I thought I was developing irritable bowel syndrome. Went to the doctor, went to another doctor, not IBS, Rectal cancer. I was scheduled to see a surgeon. I thought OK 4 months before my trip, I can get surgery and whatever I needed and go on my trip. That was what had me most upset, maybe missing my trip. Saw the surgeon, no trip.
Radiation, chemo, surgery, more chemo. I had my surgery 2 days before I was supposed to leave. They got all the cancer, it hadn't spread.
. But still needed followup chemo. Once every 2 weeks, for 12 times.
Between the radiation/chemo round prior to surgery I asked my oncologist if I could go to Disney in December and even if I was still on chemo, could I postpone one treatment if the timing didn't work for the chemo to be over before hand., He said yes.
So here I go. SUPER PLANNER. Disney at Christmas. My favorite time. Solo. I didn't have anyone to go with. O well. It will be my ultimate trip and don't I deserve it.
So here I go for December 4-11. BWI concierge. Splurge. Never stayed there, but I wanted an Epcot resort and I heard it was great. I call and make my reservation. Then OOPPS I forgot my AAA discount. Splurge yes, stupid no. No AAA rate rooms at BWI concierge. Darn it. But they have rooms at BC. OK. haven't stayed there before, but it is still an Epcot resort. OK go for the BC. I will keep checking back. That worked. A couple of weeks later, I check back and they have BWI concierge with AAA discount.
.
Then I started thinking. Never a good sign.
AKL concierge and the Sunrise Safari. What days do they run the Safari, hmmmm. I'll just add 3 days to my trip.
. I'll just shift the BWI to a standard room. Unfortunately I haven't won the lottery yet.
Got a great rate on USAIR after fighting over cancelling the old trip and using the credit for the new trip. They never mentioned the $100 penalty. But they waived it.
But...would I be too tired from chemo? ECV is the answer. I do not have my normal energy after I recover from my 4-5 day chemo tiredness. I might be able to handle MGM without the ECV, but the other parks are too big. Will I get looks when I hop off and get on a ride, or walk into a restaurant? DO I CARE? NOPE. It's my Celebration trip. After the trip I'll only have 2 more treatments and one more medical procedure. I deserve it.
I got all the ADR's I wanted. LeCellier, Rose and Crown, Raglan Road, Garden View Lounge Tea, 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace, Mama Melrose-Yippee. Got my Segway tour. Got my Sunrise Safari. What else is there to do? Write my pre trip report.
I hope this is OK on the trip report board.
Thanks for reading.
I promise to write the full report when I get back. Pictures incuded (if I can figure that out)
