Well, Here I am, the evening before we take off for our 14 hour+ trip, mostly packed and feeling that murphy's law is going to hit me anytime now. I've been planning this trip for awhile now and it's a bit bittersweet cause' my dad was supposed to be coming with us. He died in December after being told 3 weeks prior that he was terminal from Pulmonary Fibrosis and Lung cancer. It's good that he went fast, because he was suffering but it still very sad that my 64 yr kid of a dad couldn't go back to the place he loved the most..Disney. Mostly I'm sad because he will have never got to see his"little buddy" Dylan have the time of his life. I miss him dearly and will probally see him everywhere once I get there.
So, here's the motley gang:
Me34: Dylsmom72- The planner of the family. Mom can't understand that I know as much about Disneyworld as I do. Thanks to DIS, I'm prepared for anything and everything. Got my Passporter and my Birkenstocks and I'm ready to go. This is my first on-site stay. I'm usually in Orlando for conventions and can "sneak" in some Dis while I'm there. This time we are doing 8 nights at Port Orleans Riverside and am apprehensive about not having a comfy King bed or spa services (Did I say I like to be pampered?). Oh, yeah I'm a bit high maintenance. Got my Mineral Makeup (Dare humidity to ruin my makeup!!), got my numerous hair care products, curling iron and pedicure kit. I'm ready Dis!
DH38: Hubby lived in Orlando back during the Gulf War when he was in the Navy. All military got into Disney for free. He really got burned out on Disney (Huh? burned out?). Now he's finally ready to do the full resort 8 day experience. He's a nuclear engineer, a workaholic and man who likes his creature comforts (Couch, computer, X-Box). I think he needs this vacation more than anyone. I see a very large bar tab in our future!
DS7;Dylan, is the reason we are going. I think 7 is the perfect age and he's just the right height to ride anything he wants. This kid is super book-smart but lacks alot of common sense. He's sensitive and sweet and will wrestle complete strangers if they will let him. He's my cutie and sweetheart and life just wouldn't be the same without him. this is his first time to the world. He did go with me and my parents to Disneyland in 2002 but he's really too young to remember.
DM59: Mom is recovering from cancer and this is a a healing trip for her. The whole time she was getting chemo, my dad was sick and didn't know it. It was a real blow when dad got sick so suddenly and then he was gone. It's been real hard for her to adjust to life without him. They were married for 42 years (child bride). I've tried to be there for her and I want this trip to be wonderful for her. She's a tough ol' bird but this is her first major vacation without dad. She's funny, sentimental, likes to have fun and is a Disney Veteran. She's gonna be hell on wheels in her ECV (Bad hip, knee and hernia the size of Expedition everest).
So, the suitcases are ready to go. The backseat toys and laptop are packed. Soon I'll take an ativan and say nighty, nighty and hope and pray that we get there safe.
Thanks to all the Dis people that give such wonderful advice and encouragement.
SEE YOU AT THE WORLD!!
Hugs,
Jane
