I can't tell anyone...it's a secret...a surprise trip that really indicates we need therapy for our Disney addiction! I've always heard "when life gives you lemons, Make lemonade!", so we are. After a year of hours cut back, numerous mishaps and all but giving up on our annual Disney World trip...
WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!! I have looked and priced it out for years
and the airfare alone has always been over $2000.00, not to mention the hotel and tickets...always seemed a dream. Disney World always came in cheaper and I have consoled myself with the fact that We Love Disney World! So now...my husband secretly had been looking at R/T airfare that costs us $846 (awesome DH, way to go!) and he found a package & room only discount that got us a 7 night, eight day dream trip for $2100! The lemon would be my truck...it burned down...and because I have another car I'm not replacing it...the lemonade, is instead we are taking the family to Disneyland!! We are not telling our boys (or anyone else) until we go to the
airport (they'll think we are visiting relatives). We plan to tell them before we hand them the boarding passes (DS 15, DS 12)! We have other things we are considering but right now I just want to shout and giggle with glee~
WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!! :woohoo:

AWESOME! I can't even imagine their surprise when you give them the tickets!!! Great deal on the airfare, too!

I, too, have used Disneyland as my lemons-into-lemonade retreat! Despite relentless searching, I've been unemployed since October 2008 :( So naturally, what do I do to save money? Buy a Disney AP and take advantage of my time off every chance I get lol! Fortunately I have a very supportive husband who encouraged me to "do things that make you happy so you're not so depressed" ;) So where do I end up? DISNEYLAND! I cannot even describe the physical happiness I get when I go there! I catch myself smiling and giggling like a school girl on all the rides!

I hope you have an amazing time!!! :wizard:

Very awesome!!!! enjoy your magical lemonade trip!!! :)

:upsidedowI just knew you'd understand and not look at me like I had grown a third head!
No one here would shake their head at me and say..."So your truck burns down...and you're going to Disney?". That is my anticipated reaction from the rest of our family, who actually like Disney, just may not love it like we do. I am still bouncing off the walls about it and I'm having a hard time focusing on Christmas (and not spilling my guts)!
Now so far we have the airfare, we have the package and additional nights at the Disneyland hotel, and now we are debating transportation. I would really like to rent a car but we are also researching "tours". I'd like to take the kids to the beach, see the "Hollywood" hills, walk of fame, La Brea tar pits, things that are inexpensive but would be monumental to my kids. However, I'm all for hanging out at Disneyland and hotel the whole time too! Really how could I complain, "WE ARE GOING TO DISNEYLAND!"
Kevin at the Disneyland Hotel spent over an hour one night going through all
sorts of options with me and we are still no closer to deciding on transportation.
On to dining... I'm really excited about alot of the counter services available and like the spur of the moment but I've never been to Disney without a character meal. We may just have to do Goofy's Kitchen...
Can I start packing yet?

I'm glad you have Disney close enough for a quick mood enhancer-wish we were close enough to! I hope you find something soon-I too will giggle like a school girl on the rides especially when I force my children to ride Dumbo because I just Have to!

 I am so happy for you!

What a great surprise for your kids. Have you ever done anything like this before? We have never truly surprised our kids with anything that big....I would love to do it someday.

One dining option is to get some food at White Water Snacks. They have yogurt and milk and other quick foods. It is a great way when you have to be budget-conscious but are not interested in leaving the resort area. It is not the cheapest choice, but it is a bit cheaper than sit down dinning.

HTH.

Have a great time!

We did surprise our kids one other time when our oldest was in his last year of middle school. We knew it was our last chance for a big vacation because here, once you are in high school you cannot miss more than 3 days in a semester or the school system can take credits from you. That year we took the kids to Universal for 6 days and Disney World for 10. While we were at Universal we also took them to Discovery Cove to swim with the dolphins and Busch Gardens in Tampa. That was a great surprise adventure too! I think we may still be paying for that trip... I've always wanted to go to Disneyland and they talk about how cool California looks so I'm not sure which of these will be crowned the "biggest" surprise! We only have 2 more years with our oldest at home with us so we tend to want to do things with them before "life happens" and we lose our importance for a couple years! I guess once that happens I'll have to console myself with...
maybe Paris!?! LOL!

Have a great time! I know you will..what a wonderful surprise trip. :)

No one here is going to look at you like you're crazy. Hey, you're One Of Us :scared1::laughing:

What a fun surprise!!!!
