Is there any sort of service that will set up a tent site for you? I'm trying to plan the cheapest trip possible, but we would be flying down, so bringing all our camping gear with us won't work. I know there are places that rent trailers, but by the time you add in the cost of that and the camp site, you could stay at a value cheaper.

Disney will do it for $35-40 a day. You rent the site, contact them re: the tent and they set it up before you arrive. It's 10x10 and sleeps 3 comfortably. They also rent cots so you don't have to sleep on the ground for $5-6 a day per person. But that's all they provide (for a fee). Pillows, blankets or sleeping bags, towels, etc. are up to you.

Strictly on a cost basis, sometimes a Value is cheaper than a trailer rental plus a site. But trailers give you a fridge and a kitchen and thus a way to save on food/meal costs rather than Disney counter or table service for your party.

When we where there back in March of this year, I seen cast members setting up tents, but they where the regular nylon type. Looked pretty good. I looked through my pictures but didn't find any.

Thanks for the update, snowmedic. I didn't know that so I am curious to see what they will be using this go-around.

Purchase a tent from Walmart online and have it sent directly to Ft Wilderness. You'll get a much better and much cheaper tent than the one you would rent from Disney.
Maybe but there is more to it then that. Convenience could be a concern. Also what to do with the tent when you are done?

I have said it before that it could be a good business opportunity for someone to do the Tent Rental (and complete with other supplies too) for folks that want to fly down but don't want to bring all of that stuff.

To each their own though. Some are willing to pay for the convenience and experience while others are content to pinch the penny, and then everywhere in between.

And some think that actually pitching the tent is part of REAL tent camping....not just finding a cheaper place to stay onsite!!

im planning on flying down from MA in November and buying a tent and cooler at walmart or target and then donating my items to another camper before I leave. :)

@RustManFan altho the budget is nice, im going to FW for the actual tent camping experience. I spend over 30 nights in a tent per year and im beyond thrilled to tent at disney for the first time this fall!

What if you cannot find another camper to donate it too?

Just curious, when in November are you planning your trip? EDIT: Nevermind, I see you have 11/8-11/11 Tenting the Fort in your signature! :)

Put it by the road with a FREE sign. I have seen this done several times before. Our site neighbor once did this with a canopy it was gone before Frank even got out of the camper!

If you can fly SW you can take it with you. My DD and I took all of our gear when we went to the Grand Canyon.

Send your tent to:

Disney's Fort Wilderness
4510 N. Fort Wilderness Trail
Lake Buena Vista, Florida 32830

*Save for (your name) Arriving (your date)

I've done this dozens of times. You can send your tent via Walmart or if you already own one, via UPS. Also note that if you bring it with you on your flight you can have the Magical Express deliver it to Ft Wilderness with your other luggage.

Do you send it in a box, and pack an air mattress and other stuff in with it?

We leave it in whatever it comes in (bag or box) and fill a trunk with the other supplies. We always fly Southwest so the luggage flies free.
