Pre-September Trip ---getting ready for the walking

I thought I'd share what our family is doing in order to get ready for the walking we will be doing on our trip in September. I mapped on Yahoo how far it was from our house to the Polynesian resort and it was 1035 miles. We are going to "walk" and "bike" our way there. I keep track of our walking and biking (we measured the neighborhood and bikes have odometer) and we track how far we go each day. Our goal is to make the complete 1035 miles before we go. We are having a fun time doing this- I walk and my kids might ride their bikes and we can talk about school, soccer, etc. My hubby and I have "adult time" and get exercise in. Once school is out I have a "big" bike ride for my boys and I up to get ice cream (thankfully there are country roads). My kids are 12 (almost 13) and 11 so they are having fun with this activity.

So far we are 50 miles down on our trek.

That is a really great idea!
As part of my "lose weight for Disney" plan we've been walking too. I have been telling the kids it is to get their legs and feet ready for all the walking we'll do down there. But, I might steal your idea~

I actually found something similar in Time For Kids while subbing at my kids school. Class was at recess and no papers to grade (no recess duty for me). I found an issue to read thru that we were to use 'if needed' to fill time. It was about a school that has kids log miles and they get rewards, etc for the miles they log during the year. I expanded on that thinking it was great to keep us active and away from :happytv: and :surfweb: .

Great idea, I have been working out, trying to loss wieght for Mickey too, but I never thought of getting the kiddos involved!

That's a really good idea! I wish I had thought of it! We are NEVER prepared for all the walking and just standing still in line. It's too late for us, we'd never get 1200 miles in during the next 8 days!
 
Great idea! We've been going to the local track & walking/jogging. Just trying to stay active with the kids and get them ready, lol. They are all older so it should be easier but I don't want any complainers with sore legs;) .
