pre-save the date?

Hi, planners....
OK...even though I am not having a DFTW, I seem to want to communicate more with brides here than on any other site. :goodvibes

My dilemma: we have about 98% sure decided on our wedding date, and are choosing between 2 venues (for that regal princess vibe, of course--there WILL be Disney touches!). While we have managed to work around my family's vacations, a close friend's vacation, the big local festivals that would make travel a hassle for those coming out of town, and weather...we forgot one event that might affect a few guests. We are both triathletes, and we excluded dates of all of the local races...except one. On our probable date. I had forgotten about it, and not a ton of our friends do it and we aren't having the whole local tri community at the wedding anyway.
Trouble is...people (esp OCD triathletes) plan their race schedules way in advance, as races can and do sell out, and also to plan their training schedules. (we're talking about October of this year)

So...does it make sense for me, at this point, to give the handful of people that may be affected by my date choice a heads up, so they can just have that info before they sign up for the race? Sort of a pre-save the date?
I'm thinking this will potentially affect maybe 10 or so of our 130 guest list (at this point).

Thanks!

I not getting married until August 2015 but I ordered my actual Save the Dates already because we know our date and or Disney wedding involves traveling from both coasts of Canada and from Texas to florida and everyone will need tons of time for planning and saving. so I think it's completely reasonable so send out pre-STDs (or even the actual ones) to help your guests with their planning.

Thanks!

I think the situation may be corrected for now. Prob going to just push the date back a little. The one friend who was part of the issue ...well...let's just say, she has issues with positivity. :confused3
I guess there is always a glass half empty to offset the glasses that are half full. :)

Now if I could get the fiance' to get that I want the date set and to get a deposit down so I can stop stressing and then take my time to do the fun part...food and cake and pretty dresses! :)

I think pre-save the dates are a great idea!!! Especially since it's during the busy season for Tri athletes! I know I have my race schedule made a year in advance, so I totally get the need for the extra time to plan!

I will tell you to plan your wedding on whatever date is best for you. I planned my wedding around my BMs and family and am having it in August when I never wanted it then. Then the main person (MOH) I planned it around dropped out of my wedding. Do what makes you happy. If you are happy with moving it then move it.

Sending pre STDs is totally fine and trying to plan around those 10 is very nice of you, but if it adds stress to your life its not worth it.

Just my two cents.

Thanks. Yes, another friend pointed out that changing the date for that one person wasn't a guarantee. But it turns out a close family member also has a conflict, so the date change is happening and the venue is available and can accommodate various weather. So it's all turning out! :)
