I've been thinking about the OBB idea and place holders:

I am trying to figure out how to guesstimate how much our next cruise would be. I am thinking it will be a 10+ night. I really would like to go on a Panama, transatlantic, or Europe... with the oversea ones there are lots of factors like international flights etc, vs panama canal that starts in the us and returns in the us.... What pricing trends have you seen? Is there a way i can ball park prices for 1-2 years out? Other ideas, help appreciated...

There are release day pricing threads here to give a good idea.

Add 5% a year.

OBB take 10% off cruise fare, unless quoted it us a OBB transfer. Note taxes etc are not subject to the 10% off.

There's actually no need to decide which cruise, how long, or the cost of said cruise just to do a placeholder. Placeholders cost $250 regardless of what cruise you will eventually take in the future; that $250 will be applied towards the deposit at the time you pick a specific date/itinerary. You can use it for a 3-night cruise, or a 14-night cruise, as long as the future cruise starts within 24 months of the date you purchase the placeholder.

But as PP mentions, we have threads of "opening day" pricing that you can try to use as an estimate of costs. Always expect fares to increase each year. Below are the opening day threads from 2016 and 2017 cruises:
