we are on the 4 night and there are three of us, i had disney put the tips on the cruise to pre pay them, they did $43.00 x 3 -op said that is the suggested amoung, seems fair to me, has anyone else pre paid their tips so that is one less thing you need to do on the cruise

Howdy,
we have never prepaid, just kept the money in the safe or you can charge the tips at guest services and they give you a receipt to put in the envelopes they deliver to your room at the end of the trip. We always enjoy handing the sealed envelopes to our wait staff and room steward in person so we could thank them for their wonderful service personally. It's a very pleasant experience for us and I'm sure they appreciate a compliment now and then, they work very hard to please everyone and we have never been disappointed in their service.

We gotten into the habit of putting money on our ship board account a head of time, most specifically for the tips. But I'm not sure I'd want to pre-pay them unless I had the option of reducing them should something be that unsatisfactory. Obviously if you pre-pay and so deisre, you can add to that. But I do like the idea of having that expense taken care of one way or the other before I get on the ship and start impulsively spending money on stuff. So in that respect it is a great option.

I dont like the idea of prepaying tips...It just doesnt make sense to me....

I like hand delivering the tips to the CMs myself at the end of cruise......Also, the effort it takes to walk over to Guest Services and charge tips at the end of cruise is minimal....In addition, as the previous poster replied, what if the service is somehow below par? Moreover, when the CMs know youve prepaid their tips, where is the incentive to go above and beyond?

I don't like pre-paying for anything. They must earn it first, then get it after.

When do you give them their envelopes? Before or after breakfast on the last day.

The kids always deliver the envies on the last night. That way if something happens to change our plans for breakfast the last morning we don't have to worry about it.

We prepaid. They deliver the tickets with your envelopes so you don't need to go to Guest Services. :flower:

T.I.P.S.: To Insure Proper Service. Kinda defeats the purpose if its prepaid.

First off why should there be an incentive to go above and beyond, that is their job if they want to go above and beyond and the passenger feels they should be rewarded then the decision is made at that time. I think people forget that tips are a courtesy, next it is not about the effort it is about budgets, if this amount is done that is one less thing i need to worry about, further more it is done at the end of the cruise so they really have no idea that they are pre paid, and hopefully since they are in the service industry and know what disney expects of them, not to mention the fact they are no strangers to their job i don't expect any service problems.

We have prepaid our tips as being mean the exchange rate is good for us at present so we save a little bit to. Does not mean we cannot add extra if felt warranted.

Also we are planning on taking some typical british gifts with us as a little extra.

Your post asked about prepaying tips....I gave my opinion....period. No need to justify why you did it....IMO, prepaying your tips leaves you with less options...like a recipe, you can always add, but you cant take away.....

I would expect that pre-paying is exactly like paying with a credit card onboard - you will get a little card to put in the envelope, then deliver it the same manner as everyone using cash. It is simply a difference in when the credit card is turned over to guest services. If you want to add more, put cash in the envelopes. To subtract, see guest services and they can credit back.

I think this is a great idea and did not know the option was available. Anything to make the week more relaxing is a plus.

i am not, i am giving my opinion as well

Here is an alternative that a friend of mine did for our cruise in July...as she was stashing away money for their cruise, she also began stashing away for tips. She made up her own envelopes before their cruise, so everything was ready and waiting at the end of the cruise. She didn't have to stand in line, she could adjust her tips accordingly, and she didn't have to charge her tips. Just a thought.

i see what you are saying but don't you tip regardless, even if you reduce the amount, i wonder if anyone has ever taken a cruise and refused to tip someone can people do that? I tend to think of the strangest situations

True, I always tip at least the minimum. I guess if the servers aren't aware that you've prepaid, it wouldn't affect their service.
