Pre-Paid Currency Card Question

We are very old fashioned and take travellers cheques! There is a limit to how many you can cash in a day at the hotel so we cash a hundred at reception and use a hundred to buy a something ( it used to be a pack of cigs for hubby but he stopped so who knows for this trip!) at the hotel gift shop and that was our cash for the day. Disney restaurants accept them but you need to take ID of course.

It means we wouldn't be totally out of pocket if we lost them or they got stolen.

This trip will probably be the same......if it ain't broke then don't fix!

We're one of the odd ones that take pretty much all our spending money in cash,
And yes I'm talking about $3000

Hi

We all have our own view I agree, however this costs you about $83 which is the difference of buying cash at $1.44 and the rate the Halifax give you which is $1.48. Clearly you would save $0.04 for each £1 you spend

Just sayin'

Good to note that it won't actually show as a transaction. Because it's a Pre-Auth, it's a pending payment, so the guest will not see anything on their transaction list on their Online banking/Card App. It just adjusts your available funds.

Once a Pre-Auth is removed, you'd never know it was ever there :)

I think the system only does a pre-auth of a $1 on a CC to check its valid - I don't know about a pre-paid card as I have never used one.

Thank you everyone for your tips and info, it's much appreciated! It seems the consensus is go with a credit card. We may look into this and evaluate the options but we may just use the prepaid as we go along instead of tying it to the room. We shall see. Thanks for all of the info, it's very useful!

Probably the best option will be to put a CC against the room charge then when you are passing the front desk pop in and pay off the charges with your pre-paid card.

Last trip we took $200 in cash and a CC - never take a pre-paid card or TC anymore. The $200 was just for tolls and taxis and we didn't spend it all. We have PO cards that are used for anything we buy in $ whether in the US or online.

I'm not sure it does actually,as I always buy when my local store has a deal on and we get an extra amount for every $500 we buy. We've always gotten excellent rates plus the extra incentive.
it also still wouldn't make me change my mind on taking cash lol.

We actually do this but pay off with cash, we pop a cc on so we can charge our MB and not carry cash around the parks, then we Pay off what we have spent every few days.
Works well for us.
