Pre-opening ADR question

OP here.

Thanks for all the open dialog. I know there were strategies (right or wrong) like this for when A&E were in Norway and people used early ADRs at Askirhus (sp?) as their in--so poor taste or not, it was openly discussed.

But over there you could have 1 person save a space in line and it was easier/cheaper to blow off the ADR.

Over at MK now the set up is different between the ropes, fairytale hall, FP etc.

I don't have any ADRs and prob won't make one for this, but I just wanted to toss it out there and see what the protocol was.
Aren't we openly discussing it here too? I read that other thread too and there were people over there saying the same things. Some people thought it was wrong. I think it is wrong but I also gave you the information I had about being checked at the gate. The decision is yours to make. My opinion doesn't make me right or you wrong it is simply my feelings on the matter.

I said it once, twice, and now three times. Book 180 days out, get the 8am reservation. Enjoy the buffet and be out by 8:45. You will not wait for any thing for longer than 15 mins. Just keep the res. food is decent and you get to see OTHER characters. If your kids want to meet Anna and Elsa I'm sure they want to meet belle and aurora.

Stay calm and happy. Don't pay an extra fee just to dump a reservations so you can be five minutes in front of somebody who ate breakfast. When you sit down at breakfast just ask for your check right off the bats you can pay it and be done. So, when your done eating, you can just leave.

Good advice.

After reading TONS of post on tips and strategies for a M&G for Elsa and Anna and I've come to the conclusion that it's more for the parents than the children. All this trouble and potentially money wasted if you schedule an ADR and not attend for a 5 min experience that will be forgotten in 6 months ( based on my kids ages 14, 6, and 2) I almost understand because I'm this way at Christmas when it comes to gifts lol. WHEW I'm glad my younger two are boys and my 14 year old could care less lol

Exactly! Perfect advice. :thumbsup2

I don't want to see CP become the new Arkeshus because at the end of the day it won't get you anywhere that much faster. Seeing Anna and Elsa is a great experiene and something magical for your kids, but turning it into a blood sport takes all of the fun out of it for everyone. Get there early, get in line and make friends with other Frozen fans while in the line. All the excitement while waiting in line is part of the magic, too.

If people think this is in bad taste, just wait until it's common knowledge how to even avoid the $10 no show fee.

This is just another one filed in the "double dip" file.

We have 835 at crystal palace we are going to eat and then run hopefully there by 930. If line is crazy were doing another rope the following morning. Waiting to see actual wait times once they come to magic kingdom. Mainly because they will have other competitions cinderella/rapunzel.

That, and I think it kinda sucks for the restaurants - I assume they plan staffing around ADRs. And the CMs expecting to make decent tips on their shift.

Agree. In the end, as more and more people do these kinds of "workarounds", it eventually starts to tip the scales and WDW will have to react in some way, possibly by pre-charging people for meals at CP (because they can't just precharge the early morning breakfasts, they'll have to do that for everyone). Plus, it's never cool to take up ADR spaces away from folks that legitimately would like to eat there. These things do tend to have a snowball effect.

FWIW, I really like CP's breakfast buffet. And it can be quick, if you do it right. :)

This is exactly what we did at Akershus except I got lucky because I didn't book 180 days out. But Akershus princess breakfast is always one of our ADR's. We just scheduled it for an earlier time because of Anna and Elsa.

Even if you don't care about the CP characters, the breakfast is delicious. If you aren't waiting for characters, the meal will go even quicker. You can tell your waitress/waiter to have the characters skip your table.
