Pre-lit Trees... would anyone like to join me in....

We bought a pre-lit tree this year. So far it's working fine. I didn't pay all that much for it. I think $40. I guess I'll just be thankful if it lasts through this holiday season. LOL

I bought one of those dag-nabbin' things maybe 5? years ago. First year fine, 2nd year at least one string went out... Last year, I couldn't stand it, so I took all the lights off -- man, what a job!, took HOURS, lights had to be cut off the tree with a wire cutters -- and put all new lights on that I had bought after Christmas the year before. The tree itself is beautiful and was expensive, so I thought it was worth it (plus, we couldn't afford to buy a new one). We'll see how it does this year -- if the lights won't work, we will be tree-less this year. And maybe next.

OMG!!!!!
This thread is TOO funny!!!!!
We just got a gorgeous pre-lit tree, for a steal, because half the lights had gone out.

We spent most of yesterday afternoon with a pair of wire-cutters stripping every last light off the thing!!!!

Now, I can light it with GOOD lights...
And, lights that can be easily replaced if they do ever go out.
:goodvibes

Stick a fork in me...
I tried to use my ultra clear the line, click through the issue, cost me $30 on QVC last year clicker and it doesn't work.

I am going to restring the thing with new lights - off to the store.

Congrats to those with subordinate trees and my condolesences to those with trees that make your blood boil!

:rotfl: i am SOOOO showing this thread to DH when he gets home from work! he's been griping for years about having to string lights on our artificial tree (no real trees any more, due to my allergies :( ).

I get a live tree each year. Picked on up yesterday and my wife decorated it today. I throw away the lights each year and buy new one's each year, got tired of putting them away and then them not working the next year.

That's what we usually do as well. A few times, I do save a few strands of lights, just to have as extras, but prefer to just use ones "fresh out of the box" each year.

Tossing this nab blamit thing out of my front window???

One goes out the rest stays lit my foot! I have been fussing with this thing since I took it out of the box 2 hours ago! It was lit when I packed it up last year and now .... nothing!

I am going to pour myself a drink and evaluate the situation... :drinking1:drinking:

We had a beautiful prelit trees years ago. Beautiful the 1st year. The second or third year a string went out. DH worked on it for hours and finally got it lite. The next year half the tree was out. I had to stop DH from throwing it out the window!

He could not have been happier when I said just box it up and out it goes. We got an unlit tree and could not be happier!

Ours was still working as of last year and we've had it for six years now. I hope that it still works this year...

We put ours up last night.

I think its like 9 feet (we have a cathedral ceiling) and its maybe on its 3rd year. Well lets just say with 3 men (dh and 2 ds19 and 20), alot of tempers and testosterone flying..the tree still will not light up on the bottom.

Dh says he will look at it later tonight.

I always hated this tree. We took the lst one back because it didnt light up in some places. I think its from GE and we got it from Sears.

Next tree I am def. downsizing to 7 feet and will let dh dcide about the pre lit versus plan no lights tree.

I feel your pain all my pre lit disers.:santa:

This is our 3rd year for our Wal-Mart pre lit tree. We bought it when they had 75% all Christmas items, so we got it for $20 (7.5 foot tall). I expected to be fighting with it from the get-go, but we just put it up and we are still 100% lit on all strands. :thumbsup2

Not bad for a $20 tree.

I'd be upset if I had spent what some people have and didn't get many years out of it.

This is probably the last year for artificial, too, since I've finally convinced DW to go "live" next year. I grew up with the whole "trip to tree farm" tradition, and I've missed it the past few years. Next year, the kids will be bundled up and Dad is going to show them how to go and get a tree!!!
