Pre-holiday pantry challenge

Have you made the baguettes yet? I have some in my freezer, too - the mini ones - and need a good excuse to try them out. ;)

Not yet but it is on this list for dinner tomorrow night. I hope they are good, I love the fresh ones from that brand that one of my local grocery store sells and for the frozen bag of four it was cheaper than one there.

I am making progress! I was feeling like a failure. Last night I was able to move the majority of my overstock canned veggies and soups to the lazy susan where they belong! Yea!!

Lunch - leftover casserole - only one more serving of the Upside Down Pizza to go - salad, bean salad. DH and DS - they are on their own - I hope they eat some leftovers.

Tonight - the remains of any leftovers are going - spaghetti sauce, rice, bean salad, homemade Hamburger Helper. That can be supplmented with salad if need be. Sounds...interesting. But the fridge will be cleaned and we can start over.

Tomorrow - lunch at my cousins and the desert at my inlaws. Should be a long day but hopefully somebody will give me some turkey to take home!

Happy Thanksgving everyone!

Oh mY!! That's sounds awesome! We have done injected meats before but not with Grand Marnier. Wait till I tell dh!

I put the rest of my bottle of Grand Marnier which was about a half cup, 1 tsp liquid smoke, 1 cup oj, 1/4 tsp salt and we injected it today! It is really yummy. We have also used the jars of ready made pesto to inject. :thumbsup2

lunch ham on a rolland, can of fruit cocktail
dinner..... home made mac and cheese and salad

snack we made cookies:thumbsup2

ive been doing pretty good with the challenge so far.

sunday for dinner we had leftover baked pasta, salad
monday-made a casserole using ground beef, rice, cream of mushroom, and canned vegis i had in the pantry.
tuesday-premade beef stroganoff, vegis from freezer
tonight-rice, frozen broccoli, breaded chicken from freezer
tommorrow-for thanksgiving my family is taking me out to dinner.

lunches and breakfasts have been leftovers from dinner, egg salad, oatmeal/milk/fruit, peanutbutter/whole grain bread/ fruit

two weeks ago i got my order from angel food ministires. with the program you get 50-60 dollars worth of food for $30. so far this month i have only spent $92 for two people ($60 dollars angel food and $32 at wegmans). my freezer is still full. this amount includes cat food, paper products etc. if i can go the next two weeks spending $30 each week, on groceries, i will be very happy. that will be my goal along with using up what is in the freezer/pantry.

Lunch was the last of my whole wheat pasta and spaghetti sauce, and to be honest, it was just awful! :scared:

DSis gave me a couple boxes of Velveeta shells & cheese (against what I'm working towards here, I know!) so I think that will be dinner in hopes of making up for lunch.

Picked up my produce box today and it's got some good winter ingredients: carrots, celery, apples, sweet potatoes, garlic. Time to make some stew, soup, and maybe sloppy joes! :thumbsup2 It will make using up the meat in the freezer that much easier.

DBIL loves apples and I seem to have at least 20 in the fridge, so they're going to be heading over to his house. Thanksgiving present for DBIL! :lmao:

Gifting some coffee to DDad since I decided I don't really like being a coffee drinker. I have a whole container of liquid Pumpkin Spice Creamer I don't know what to do with now - any ideas? Maybe use it in baking? (Planning on giving being a tea drinker a go - I just like something warm in the morning. :surfweb:)

I must be doing something right - I can see empty space in my pantry! :3dglasses

I am doing the same. I have now 4 turkeys and about 8 cans of gravy and about 10 can of broth:scared:. I think I might need a stockpilers meeting kind of like AA it would be SA. I think I am a sucker for a good deal:rolleyes1

I figured that since today the day before Thanksgiving, some stockpiling just had to happen, right? Mostly I bought fresh food for tomorrow but some gravy, crackers, cereal (it was on sale!), canned pumpkin (there's a shortage this year so four cans was restrained in my mind :) ), canned fruit (ours was completely gone) all came home with me.

We've been doing pretty darn good though. It's gotten down to the "boring!" cereal so today's bananas should help out with that. But supper was out of the stockpile! My husband was in charge of it so he made potstickers from the freezer. I tried out my T-day salad before serving it tomorrow too.

I hope you will enjoy them too.

I drink tea and use these creamers in my tea. Yummy!

Happy Turkey Day everybody!

That's a great idea! I bet the pumpkin creamer would be yummy in a spicy tea.

Now I'm looking into joining a "tea of the month" club to try different kinds of teas. Gotta keep my morning cuppa interesting!

I took two kinds of lettuce to DSis's for Thanksgiving so that evens out the Velveeta shells & cheese she gave me. Apples are at her house so I have a LOT more room in my veggie crisper!

However, I'm taking home the turkey carcass in hopes of making turkey soup. I've never made this before, but I'll give it a try! I am open to any and all suggestions and tips! :goodvibes

I have carrots, celery, chicken stock, etc. so it will (hopefully) go well and use up the food from around the house. :thumbsup2

Stew will be on the menu soon, as will sloppy joes. I'm looking forward to all the yummy winter-time warm dishes! :)

Hope everyone had a great turkey day. I did and we have very little leftover this year. So tomorrow I am going to cook something in our new crockpot that has a timer :goodvibes:. We got it at a local drugstore that had a promotion going today and since our old one is starting to go we decided to get new one.

I looked in my freezer today and not much left. i just bought chicken at Big y buy 1 get 2 free so i have two packs left and hot dogs were buy 1 get 2 free so I have those but other than that i have some veggies and a pizza its looking bare. And I'm loving it. Pizza sauce for diner. Still thinking about lunch.

My problem is not so much with groceries but LOTION! I know, weird, right? But people will give me lotion or I will inherit it somehow or maybe it multiplies overnight:rolleyes1 but I have tons of it and I dont even use lotion!!

Any ideas what I can do with it?

I am using up the last of the garlic bread, last of the meatballs and sauce and last of the parm cheese tonight for dinner.

Today I made a turkey leftover shepherds pie. I ran out of gravy so I made some using some chicken broth, flour butter, and some turkey soup base. Then I added shredded turkey, mixed veggies, and the gravy and put that over stuffing in a casserole dish. On top of that I put mashed potatoes and baked it at 350 for about 25 minutes. It was awesome! Tomorrow is turkey noodle soup i am making with the carcass I froze.

had 1/2 of a box of whole wheat pasta, jar of sauce and a little bit of mozzerella left. also had breaded chicken in the freezer. tonight was chicken parm and salad. i have enough leftovers for lunch too!!

as posted earlier my game plan is to spend $60 ($30 tommorrow and $30 next saturday) i need more salad, milk and fruit. wegmans has a 5 pound bag of mozerella for only $8.99. i will bag that up in freezer bags and freeze for use in casseroles and baked pasta. dd makes pita pizza with it too. if i can spend the 60 that means ill have only spent $155.00 in groceries for the month thanks to this challegnge!!!!:woohoo:

That's great! :woohoo:

You inspired me to check on my monthly spending - somehow it's at nearly $200 for groceries. :scared:And I still need to go to the Aldi tomorrow for some fresh dairy. :sad2:

So today we spent the day shopping. We were at Target when they opened and got everything, and then some on our list. Had breakfast out, a tradition, and were home by 10:30am

Dinner tonight was roast beef sandwiches again with sweet potato fries.

Okay so today I went and helped my Grandma decorate her house for x-mas so lunch was at her house.

Breakfast was leftover apple pie :goodvibes:
Lunch was hot dogs, chips, and brownies at Grandma's
Dinner will be pork chops, buttered noodles, and steamfresh corn
