Where did you eat in Vancouver?

I *think* the closest one is probably in the food court at the Pacific Centre Mall, much of which is contained at ground or underground level and you can access the mall from various streets, including Georgia, Robson, Howe St.

There is also one on Denman, closer to the beach, but I think that is farther from the Pan Pacific.

Thanks for the info!

Hi - I love the idea of going to the Lonsdale Quay Market. It looks like a great way to stretch our legs after a long day of flying from the Midwest.

Question - are the ferries pretty frequent? What's the insider's tip to get from downtown to the ferry location?

Also, is the Market set up so that we can "sample" our way down the stalls? We love to buy a little here, a little there, a taste here, there.... we're very eclectic when it comes to food choices.

Thanks for the suggestion! I checked out the website and it looks wonderful!

Excuse my ignorance but what's a beaver tail?

Fried dough with assorted topings (not unlike Indian Fry Bread here in the SW and cousin to the funnel cake).

It's a pastry shaped like a beaver's tail.

I feel like we are staying out of the way of all the good food! We are at the Hilton Burnaby Metro (free with DH's points). Jotting these local places down though!

We are too!!! We plan on taking the Skytrain each day to Downtown and head out from there. Also jotting down all the good recommendations.

We cruise on the August 16th cruise!

It's been a long time since I've been to Lonsdale Quay, but to get there from downtown you take the Seabus, which departs from the Waterfront terminal, which is the terminal point for two of our Skytrain lines (Canada Line and Expo Line.) Depending where you are in downtown, you can walk to the Waterfront terminal, it's very close to some of the hotels like Fairmont Waterfront, Pan Pacific, etc.

Another great area to hang out is Granville Island. There is a huge public market (ie groceries and such) and a ton of food court stalls too. If Lonsdale is the same then yes I would imagine you could buy and sample whatever you wanted. Granville Island also has a lot of neat stores to buy artistic/crafty things. Great place.

There is a lot to eat in the Metrotown area too, so don't feel as though you have to go downtown every day :) Plus if it's raining, the Metrotown at Metropolis mall is one of western Canada's largest malls, not that you are coming to shop at a shopping mall, but it's available :D

We will be staying at the Pacific Rim pre-cruise in Vancouver and are looking for ideas for a place for 11 of us to eat dinner the Monday night before the cruise. Preferably somewhere that might take reservations, so that we won't have a long wait. There will be 7 adults and 4 kids ages 9, 11. We won't have a car.

Thanks for any advice.....

Check out Al Porto.

Excellent food, reasonably priced, and authentic. It'll get you ready for a dinner at Palo for sure.

It's casual too, we had people in there with jeans/t-shirts to business people in suits.

Plus it's walking distance from the Pacific Rim - maybe 2-3 blocks at most.

We stayed at the Pacific Rim and had dinner at a restaurant called Joey's - it was amazing food and service - It was a couple of blocks but a nice walk (got to see a bit of the city). Our waitress even brought us a complimentary appetizer. Enjoy your time wherever you choose to eat!

Hi

I would suggest Old Spagetti Factory in Gastown about a 10 min walk from the port. Good food and very economical. My friend sugested Steamworks, it is at the entrance to Gastown, I have not eaten there but my friend likes it.

Have a good trip
Nicole

We made reservations at both Steamworks & walked in with 11 people to Old Spaghetti Factory and waited about 25 minutes (not sure if they take reservations). We enjoyed the food at Steamworks. Across from Steamworks was Rogue, which was a trendy restaurant, but again we enjoyed the food. Old Spaghetti Factory was the cheapest meal we had the whole trip. 12% tax makes for an expensive meal!!

Thank you everyone! We"ll be in Vancouver Aug. 6 and I'm already drooling.

I recommend White Spot. It is a chain here so they are easy to find. Good variety in their menu. I live just outside of Vancouver and we love it there. If you want Pasta, go to Old Spagetti Factory in Gastown. Fun place to eat and they are reasonably priced. Your entree price comes with soup/salad,yummy bread, spumoni ice cream and tea/ coffee. I can't help with smaller places. Unfortunately, I don't get downtown as much as I would like to. :)

As an Italian living in Vancouver I cannot in good faith ever suggest anybody go to Old Spagetti Factory for Italian food. There's far better places for similar prices. if Italian interests you Lombardos is good and not pretentious at all.

We enjoyed Death by Chocolate. I forget which location we went to.

Woody

The one on Grandville @ Broadway is still open, or was a few weeks ago when I drove past.

We are currently in Vancouver pre-cruise, and had dinner tonight at Italian Kitchen on Alberni St. It was delicious, and surprisingly, they had a kids menu. I'd really recommend it for a fancier, but super yummy Italian meal. The bellman at our hotel recommended we try the spaghetti with Kobe meatballs, and they were awesome! We had a reservation about a week ahead of time for this restaurant, which was a smart plan.

Last night we had dinner at The Keg Steakhouse, and we all enjoyed it as well. Also very kid friendly, despite being a nice place to dine. We used the open table website to get a reservation here.

Tomorrow night we are dining at the Tearoom in Stanley Park. I'll have to report back with our thoughts on it.

Ooooh! My DD wants to go to the Teahouse, so I'll be looking forward to your review. The Keg Steakhouse looks good, too.:surfweb:
