Thanks to the Disboard, our trip this past week went incredibly well. So I want to pay it forward by offering some observations on things like the DxDP.
We were a family of four with two teens who are not picky eaters and have been eating out since very young. We had never done a Dining Plan before but, after researching it online here, we decided it would be to our advantage. I am glad we did it (with some caveats below) and am sure we gained weight because of it!
I picked the Deluxe Plan because I knew we would want to eat at several Signature restaurants. We used every snack credit and were down to 1 TS credit at the very end so we traded that for three snacks to go at Main Street Bakery. We used the snack credits for breakfast (muffins, fruit, chocolate milk) and some afternoon snacks and waters. Didn't worry about whether we were getting the most bang for the buck, just used them as we needed them.
Here's where we ate:
Hurricane Hanna's (on arrival for a quick meal)
La Hacienda in Epcot (7:45 ressie worked great for 9:30 Illuminations)
LTT
Flying Fish
50s Prime Time
Jiko (my favorite!)
Marrakesh
Citrico's (a disappointment mostly due to slow service)
Plaza
We were favorably impressed with all of our meals. Much better than we remembered Disney food. Not all perfect but some absolutely delicious. We are not dessert eaters but usually ordered one or two to share. The brownie Sundae at The Plaza is to die for!!!!
We were surprised that even though it was a very busy week, most restaurants were not full when we ate at them (FF, Jiko, Marrakesh and Plaza were all half empty).
Most of the portion sizes were huge so the next time I might think about doing regular dining plan and sharing some meals. But then we wouldn't get appetizers and we always get a salad or soup or something.
The plan also gave us the flexibility to say to the kids "Go back to the Beach Club and pick up a snack or whatever if you're hungry" and not have to dish out money to do so.
And now it's time to lose all of that dessert weight....
