pre booking seats on flights

Hi I wonder if you could help me out please with a question.

Do you have to phone a pre book your airline seats to make sure you sit together (there are three of us)

flight is on the 31st of may a codeshare between continental and virgin to orlando international.

I have been reading through various previous posts and there have been some horror stories about people being bumped off codeshare flights as they havent phoned in advance to get seats allocated

what should I do? do i phone continental, or virgin?

I am planning on using the twighlight check in if poss so is it ok to wait until then or should i get it sorted now??

I'm no expert but i would phone Virgin and pre-book your seat as you said 'continental and virgin do share.

Remember you can only book your seat 180 days in advance.

Not any more! You can now book up to 11 months in advance - as of April 12th!!!!!

got through to Virgin Customer Services (after a long wait!!)

and have pre assigned outward and return seats

Don't want to worry you. We're just back flew Virgin Manchester to MCO. We had pre assigned seats outward and return. Going we got our seats. Coming back we checked in at DTD and didn't get the seats. However, we were very happy with the seats they gave us so we didn't complain. Check in early then you've got more of a guarantee of sitting together. By the way there was 7 of us so a little more difficult to accomodate than 3.

Even though you've pre-booked, I'd still advise checking in as early as you can.

We always pre-book seats, always right on the 180 day limit (BTW thanks for the 11 month notice, tiggernut ), but have hardly ever actually had the ones we'd been pre-assigned

At least if you check-in early you might have a choice of where you can sit.

can you tell me what the DTD is?? haven't heard of that one being a florida virgin!!!

Twilight check in is when you can check in from about 3.30 pm the day BEFORE your flight!I think it's open 3.30--9pm?

This is great if you are staying in a Gtwick overnight hotel or live clase enough to Gatwick to drive there the night before.

All members of your party must be present,including children.You are checked in the normal way with them taking your luggage and more impotantly you will have your seat allocation.This way you are far more likely to get the seats you have pre-requested.You can then turn up later at the airport to go through customs.

can you tell me what the DTD is

DTD = DownTown Disney. Virgin have a spot at Downtown Disney (the shopping and nightlife area of WDW) where they will check-in their guests and take hold luggage for the return flight. This leaves Virgin guests free to enjoy the rest of the day, requiring then to arrive at the airport much later than those waiting to check-in at the airport.

The Virgin spot is right in front of Cirque de Soleil building - car park side. Well worth using.
