I just talked to my mother. She has been ill off an on for a few months. The Dr kept insisting it was just bronchitis brought on by colds. The Dr wouldn't even see her. She (the dr) would jsut call in prescriptions. I finally convinced mom to insist to see the Dr Actually I asked her to change Drs but she said she didn't feel well enough to go to the trouble.

Anyway the Dr sent her for test this week. Several things showed up including a partially colapsed lung. Mom read the report and the radiologist had marked something about a possible malignancy.

Mom goes Monday to a specialist. She thinks they are doing a biopsy but she feels so bad that she really doens't remember what the Dr said.

UPDATE.... 4/6/04

Well the scope down into her lungs and biopsy are scheduled for Thursday. Mon was just the preliminary appointment with the specialist. He seemed to think then that the obstruction is chronically inflamed tissue and not from a tumor. He also sent her to a dematologist on Mon for cultures and biopsy on some of lesions from her skin condition (something she has had off and on since I was 5 with no diagnosis other than dermatitis, which I personally think might be lupus)

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.

UPDATE.....4/8

Mom had the scope today. The Dr seemed certain that it is not cancer (at least as certain as he can be visually)
Hopefully when the cultures come back they will have a better course of treatment.

thanks again

Ooooooo, I hate doctors like that. Sooo sure of themselves that they don't even check the patient.

I'll keep your mom in my prayers.

I've tried for over a yr to get her to change Dr's. Must have been a yr ago Dec when we were changing insurance policies. I noticed in the physicians directory for our new policy, that the Dr does not have hospital privileges at any of the hospitals. Before that I had some concern because she was changing/moving offices every yr.

Sorry to hear that, Sharon. Best wishes and prayers coming your mom's way. Too bad she had a doctor like that. My best in the days ahead.

Sharon, your mom is in my prayers. I agree with you--she should change doctors ASAP. I will pray that the specialist will be able to help get her feeling 100% better very soon and that it is nothing serious. {{{HUGS}}}

I'm going in the AM to pick up her x-rays and test for her. Her boyfriend is taking Mon off the take her to Dr. I want to go, but she doesn't want me leaving the kids at home all day, and Bri wouldn't last in the waiting room for very long.

She wants me to make copies of the reports and read them over. I'm almost afraid to read them.

 I hope your mom doesn't have anything that is serious and that she feels better soon.

Prayers will be said for your Mom. I hope that all the testing goes well on Monday. Please keep us posted.

Ugh, I hate waiting on medical issues!!!! I hope she is feeling better soon and that you get answers quickly. Try not to sweat what you see in the reports.

Last year, they found a spot in my sisters lung and were "sure" it was malignant (it fit all of the criteria, size shape, growth...everything). When they did the surgery, the tumor turned out to be benign, it amazed the doctor. There are no absolutes until they are SURE, and that takes more than films and 'possibles'. One thing is certain, insist that she see the best doctors(specialists) available, check around, ask for referrals.

And, if at all possible, have them take a mini recorder so that you can go over what was said during her visit, I know it sounds strange, but I swear the walls of a doctors office suck the memory cards out of patients brains (it seems we only remember bits and pieces)! It also gives you a reference point for what questions to ask on the next visit.

Good luck to you all, I hope you get some good news!

Great idea. I knew she said she didn't remember much that was said at the radiology center because the dye was giving her a terrible headache. I didn't even ask if her boyfriend went with her. I don't think you are suppose to drive after that.

I'm thinking a bit clearer now, and less emotional. I'm hoping the possibly malignancy part was in reference to a calcium deposit she has in one of her breast. She has had to have some type special imaging done in addition to a mammogram for yrs because of it.

bumping up for update in orgional post

That is good news, Sharon. Hopefully they will figure out what it is for relief. Prayers continue.

Hope your mom recovers fully and finds a doctor she likes and trusts ... some things are more important than disagreeing on issues :)

I hate to see that happen to your mom. You turn to the doctor for help and they treat you like you don't know what you're talking about. She will be in my prayers.

So true. Situations like this make petty little disagreements seem so silly.
Thanks

What a relief that the doctor doesn't think that this is a malignancy. I hope your mother is feeling better, soon.

Glad to hear the doctor doesn't think it's malignant. Sure hope your Mom is feeling better soon.
