I found out on Thursday that my best friend has a brain tumor. They originally said it was 4.1 cm on her cerebellum. She saw a neurologist yesterday and they found out that it is A LOT bigger than the 1st MRI showed. It pretty much runs down the brain stem and through the cerebellum(her words...I know NOTHING about anatomy)

She was admitted to the hospital last night for more tests and to get ready for the surgery on Monday. The docs think it is a "pediatric tumor" that she was born with and has just gotten bigger and bigger.

I need some prayer help! I'm not a religeous person so I feel like maybe my prayers alone are just too late...so I need some help.

Also...if anyone has any experience with this type of tumor, personal stories would help a lot...the good, the bad and the ugly. I would like to know what to expect.

First... :hug::hug::hug:

I know someone (local girl I went to hs with) that they found a brain tumor about 7 years ago. She was in her 30's w/ 2 small children. I believe it was inoperable. She ended up going to North or South Carolina for some 'new' treatments, because the treatments up here in NY were not giving her much hope. Happy to report she is cancer free today.

I hope this gives you a little hope, and something to pass on to your friend. I do not know exactly where she went, but if need be I could try to find out. I'm not friends w/ her, but my dh knows her brothers well enough to ask.

(I'm guessing it was a University hospital, but I'm not totally sure).

I'll pray for her, but I'm not that religious either, but I'll try... I think the 'big guy' listens to everyone.

Thank you! I'm sure she is in on the BIG NAME hospitals in Tampa. I live in TX right now:guilty: So I am waiting to find out where she is.

Prayers for your friend.

Does she have a meningioma? Our friends dd who is 20 just had surgery for this and is doing well.

Wishing your friend all the best. Praying she will know Gods peace in the days ahead and that his healing hand would be upon her.

Thank you...and she hasn't said that exact word(meningioma) so IDK...but that is good to hear about your friend's DD!

I will keep your best friend in my thoughts and prayers for healing for her.
What a wonderful friend you are~
Prayers are never too late, and one does not need to be "religious" for their postive energy to work. And... I believe that love is equally as important.

Thank you...I like that, "One does not have to be religious for their positive energy to work"...I'm gonna steal that...Copy write it. ;)

I moved to Tampa last July and work at Tampa General (TGH)- not in that specialty though. If (hopefully not) the tumor is malignant there is another hospital in Tampa that specializes in cancer - Moffitt Cancer Center- that might be a better choice - but otherwise TGH is the best in the area for sure. Good luck to her and I will be praying for her. It's the best place for her in Tampa.

 Prayers for your friend. Keep us updated.

Today she having the first surgery...an angioplasty?(I looked it up...but it makes no sense to me)...so hope that goes well. Tomorrow morning they will try and removed the tumor.

We have a good friend in his late 50's who had a tumor removed last year and he has done great. They also think his was something he's had for a long time because it's a "pediatric" type of benign tumor. It was also very slow growing. They managed to get it all. The only symptom he had was some weakness in his hand.

Sent up prayers for you and your bestie:hug:

Thanks everyone! She goes in to have it removed in about 20 minutes...When they went in to do the angioplasty they found that it wasn't vascular so that simplifies the surgery a bit!
