Prayers going out for Jamaica

Hurricane Melissa looks like a beast heading right for the island. 🙏 :sad1::scared:

I hope everyone who was able to leave the island did leave, but I am afraid there are still a lot of people in harm’s way.

I have also been thinking about Bermuda. Although Melissa won’t be as strong when it reaches the island, they have been hit with multiple storms this year. We Floridians know firsthand how bad that can be.

I will be glad when hurricane season is over . . .

I hope the Jamaicans survive this storm. Category 5 is NO joke. With the holidays on the horizon, Christmas could be CANCELLED for millions of people on the island. Prayers and pixie dust x100.

I am so worried about the people who stayed behind in Jamaica and couldn’t evacuate. The storm is just so strong and moving way too slow that they will be battered for hours on end. I know there are higher elevations on the island so those areas won’t get flooded but it may cause mudslides in addition to the coastal flooding from the storm surge. I lived through hurricane Andrew as a kid and that was scary but it moved through very quickly, the flooding wasn’t terrible like it will be with Melissa.

And, unfortunately, Melissa has continued to strengthen as it approaches Jamaica. Winds up to 180 mph and pressure down to 896 mb on the latest update.

Once stayed for a week in a home (Montego Bay area) ~ the most amazing trip with the most amazing people. Have stopped 3-4 times on a cruise (Ocho Rios & Falmouth) and my favorite people to spend the day and visit. Even our favorite staff on cruises have been from Jamaica. I feel so much sadness for what they are facing. Such beautiful people! đź’”

The news is talking about a group of people from not to far away from me that are stuck there. They were there for a honeymoon that a few of their friends came along. They tried multiple times to get back home but either the flights were cancelled (they tried booking multiple ones and each one was cancelled) or the price was out of reach, they quoted they saw Economy be $4,000 per person. Then some were able to book flights but then the airport shut down. It looks like that particular group is at one of the Sandals properties on the island. Right now at least one of the group stuck there is booked on a flight on Friday but of course no one knows about the conditions of the airport much less the route to it will be like.
