Our one dog and my brother's dog, a chihuahua got into a little squabble over food. There was a small knot on his neck. My brother's dog has epilepsy and seemed very afraid. He also has a heart murmur. We took him to the emergency vet to get checked out and they said they aren't sure exactly what is happening with him. Nothing is related to the knot that he got from the little fight though. They said it might be heart failure but they aren't sure/something to do with his heart. He just turned 9. They are keeping him overnight and have him on some fluids and other things.

This dog is my brother's life (he has aspergers and is very depressed). If you could say a prayer for him and his dog, Taco, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Oh no, I am so terribly sorry. Prayers for both your brother and his dog are on their way.

Please report back how things go for you all.

I will.

My brother also has a ferret (he has two) but the one was all the sudden laying there lifeless and acting paralyzed. We thoguht she was dying. they don't really have much of an answer for her but she is on fluids as well. This all just had to happen on the same night, seems that's teh way it goes.

I'm just so concerned about my brother's dog and my brother. He already has health problems (mental and physical) so I don't know how he would handle his dog dying. I'm hoping if he does have something wrong with him, it is
something that can be taken care of at home, even if he is dying.

It's so hard.

Absolutely will include Taco & your brother in our prayers, please keep us posted & hang in there:hug:

Oh no! I'm so sorry, I can feel his sadness, if something would happened to my babies I would go crazy, I love them so much. My prayers and thoughts are with Taco

Sending the very best to Taco!

What symptoms did Taco have? In most cases, a diagnosis of congestive heart failure is quite straight forward based on exam & chest x-rays.

If he has heart failure, he absolutely should not be on IV fluids! Most little dogs get left-sided heart failure& their lungs fill with fluid. If this is the case, he needs diuretics, not fluids. Very important!

Hope to hear some good news soon...

My mom and brother went in to see him today and he was alert and excited to see them. He didn't eat and threw up a bit but he wanted to go home with them (understandably). They want to keep him overnight again because they are having a cardiologist come in tomorrow (people bring their dogs to have him look at them) so they are hoping he can help figure out what is going on.

We are supposed to bring his medication for seizures in tonight and it's storming so I'm trying to wait for that to pass before we run up there.

Thanks so much to everyone who has sent well wishes and prayers. They are very much appreciated.

They said he was acting like he got into something...like a rat poison or something, which they also said can mean they have heart problems.

We did not know that his heart murmur was severe. The vet said he had a heart murmur but the emergency vet said this morning it's about a 3 on a scale of 6.

He has been having more seizures (or what we thought were seizures) lately since going on a new medication. His old one (phenobarbital) was showing some liver changes so the vet switched it. However, the emergency vet last night said they may not have been seizures at all but some problem associated with his heart? They seemed like seizures to me though!

I believe they took an xray last night but I'm not sure if they even said what the results were. I guess we'll know more tomorrow.

Awww..prayers for Taco...I hope it's somthing they can treat and he's all better soon:flower3:

Checking in to inquire about Taco, the ferret too, your brother & of course the rest of your family
