I would like to request prayers for my dad.
He went into the hospital last Friday vomiting blood and feeling faint and confused. He was admitted and tests were done. It was determined that he was bleeding from his esophagus. A procedure was done to temporarily repair parts of his esophagus and attempt to stop the bleeding. It was swmi-successful for a couple of days until his esophagus re-ruptured yesterday. It was determined that there was pressure being placed on his stomach and esophagus by his liver, causing massive bleeding. He needed another procedure that can only be done in 2 hospitals in the St. Louis area. So last night he was transferred to one of those hospitals.
He lost a massive amount of blood and had to have 34 units of blood transfused in total over the day and a half. They were able to get him stablized this morning long enough to start the procedure, but he coded twice during the procedure. One of those times, he was out for ten minutes. The good news is that they were able to complete the procedure and get him stablized again. As of this evening, he was maintaining his blood pressure and heart rate on his own without the aid of meds or blood transfusions. This means that the procedure was likely a success, and that the bleeding was significantly reduced or eliminated altogether. We'll wait through the night, and if he remains stable, the next abstacle will be finding out whether he suffered brain damage when he coded during surgery. For tonight, they're keeping him intubated and sedated.
We could use all the prayers we can get for my dear dad. I can't even begin to tell you what my dad means to me. He's only 56 years old. We need him to stick around for a while longer.
Thank you.
