Prayers and Pixie dust needed for my 4 year old **update pg 9**

Thinking of you and your family this morning. Hope all goes well, and that there will be good news to come.

DS10 was at CHOP at 3 mos old with breathing issues. Pediatrician misdiagnosed asthma - he had reflux. CHOP diagnosed this after 5 day stay in the hospital and 2 out patient tests later. When it didn't clear up by his first birthday, we saw 2 more specialists, had 2 more overnight stays, and a few more diagnostic tests before they decided to take out his tonsils and adenoids out which cleared up everything.

CHOP takes care of the patient AND the family. Even though I wasn't a patient, they made sure I was doing okay while I was there with my son. When I had to take my other children (3 of them under the age of 6), they helped keep them occupied. The nursing staff was amazing. And because the hospital is geared towards kids, it does not seem like a sterile hospital. All my children loved the kinetic sculptures in the main atrium. Even if we were in one of the other buildings, we had to go see the "ball thing" in the main hospital.

I think being an RN, you know more than a layman, which makes it scarier. If CHOP doesn't work for you, check out Nemours/Alfred I. DuPont Hospital in Wilmington. They are also a fantastic hospital.

I will say a prayer for your son and for you.

Prayers and Pixie Dust headed your way.....keep us informed

Praying for Johnathan today and hoping MRI goes well. Remember to let your Dis friends know as soon as you are able. God bless you and your family and also the doctors and nurses who do such a great job.

We spent many days at CHOP with my daughter. She is a brain cancer survivor at the age of 11. I know we stayed at the Ronald McDonald House and if they did not have room they would help find you a hotel so for future referance this may be handy. Hope all goes well for you and your son. My daughter has had MANY MRI's and knows the drill all to well.

Sending lots of good thoughts and pixie dust.

I work at a children's hospital and the best advice I can give is to take advantage of all the services they offer, which are different than what is offered by an adult facility. The philosophy is different, too. In a pediatric facility they treat the whole family and not just the child. If you need a quiet place to nurse the baby, just ask for it, if your son is going to be an inpatient for an extended time ask for Child Life services for him. And since most pediatric facilities are centrally located they are used to dealing with children and families that are far from home and have services to help stay in touch with the rest of the family and friends back home, just ask for it.

I was going to say the say thing. My now 12yo DS had kidney surgery when he was 3 at Children's in Boston. My DD was 12 weeks old and still nursing. The staff were all wonderful and helped support me with my DD as well. I also LOVED the Child Life specialist who helped prepare DS for the surgery and helped the family cope as well. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your little one. Believe me, it will be harder on you than your child.:grouphug:

The MRI is over. Johnathon did very well, he got car sick on the way to MRI and we were delayed until 130p so he was pretty hungry but he was very brave. They let him take his puppy in and puppy got the gas first. He woke up ok and was only mildly upset about the IV. So I have the films in hand and now preparing for the big trip tp CHOP thur to see what when are dealing with. I need to shake off my anxiety so we can be happy for his Prek graduation tomorrow, he is so excited about it. Thanks so much everyone for the support, it means more than you know.
