Well I am in the Birmingham area and they are expecting that we will have major power outages not into the days but maybe a week or more. This may be the last time I get to cruise the DIS for several days!
We are suppose to get sustained winds of 60-70 mph for a period of several hours. I hope my windows stay in! My FIL said that the wind wouldn't blow them out only debris/trees falling. Since we don't have trees close enough to hit the house, I don't have to worry about that one and we have tried to secure all the loose items outside. Since my house is mostly windows and we are on a mountain this will be interesting!
I saw some people today (three cars travelling together) that were obviously looking for a hotel; they were from the Mobile area (can tell from the car tags). They didn't have any luck in this area obviously since they pulled into a small dumpy hotel and then left. I wish I had approached them to direct them to a Red Cross shelter. We have several in our community due to the high rate of mobile home residents and the lake area here. I sure hope they found a place to stay I am sure they were exhausted/stressed from the evacuation trip. So far the local news reports don't look good for the coast. My in-laws didn't even board up their condos! They covered everything in plastic and think that will protect their stuff. I guess that's what insurance is for.
Will post from this area as soon as we are through it!
