My mom went in today to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy due to some reflux and heartburn she was having.

Her colon looked good, but in addition to a hiatal hernia, they also found precancerous lesions in her esophagus. They took biopsies, but she doesn't go back to the doctor for two weeks.

I really don't know the consequences of precancerous lesions, but the very word cancer scares me to death, especially when she is only 58.

As I said, for all I know, the lesions are no big deal, but I will be very worried until I find out for sure.

My prayers are with your mom. It sounds to me like they caught the problem early before it became a bit problem, which I think is very good news. {{{HUGS}}} for you both.

You mom will be in my prayers. Hope all turns out well.

My hubby had 2 endoscopies last year. With the first one, he was diagnosed with "Barrett's Syndrome" (sp?). It sounds exactly like what you're talking about with your mom. It's a precancerous condition. My husband has been treated with Nexium, and drugs in that category (Proton Pump Inhibitors, I think). He had a follow-up endoscopy (the 2nd) a couple of months later, and the lesions had healed. He'll be on the meds the rest of his life, and he'll need annual or semi-annual endoscopies. But it's very manageable and treatable when caught early, like your mom's seems to have been. I hope I'm making you feel a bit better, and I hope your mom's recovery is as quick and uneventful as my husband's! Good luck to you all.

P.S. My hubby was only 39 when this happened. It's pretty common.

Good thoughts for you Mom, Kristy.

I hope that all is well....:)

Always difficult waiting on test results Kristy. . your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers and I hope everything comes back negative and she's okay. . .

I pray that the lesions do not become cancerous, Kristy. I know this is very scary. {{{HUGS}}} sweetie.
