Please continue your prayers for Jim (coldiron) and Phyllis ( Poohstyx). I recieved this email from her today...as you can see, it is still a battle...
"Greetings! Lots of things have happened since the last update. On 11/28, Jim saw the Dr to get a shot to up the white cell count. Things were fine. The next day I took him back for another shot. They could not give him the shot because he had a temp. They had him wait for a little while they checked his temp often. The Dr had him put in a holding area to see if the temp would break. The temp kept going higher, so the Dr decided to admit him to the hospital. Well, the temp kept going up and Jim started to have severe chills. His temp reached 103 then 105 then 107!! Wow things really got exciting! The nurses were jumping thru hoops! Me, too! They put ice packs under each arm and on the groin area. He started to hallucinate! He didnt know who I was he didnt even know who or where he was. I had a time trying to keep him from getting up and leaving. Finally, a room was available in the hospital. So, off we went to the room by this time the temp had come down a bit and he was (almost) normal again. With meds and IVs he was much better. The problem turned out to be a Staph Infection from the Meda-port. He was put on powerful Anti-biotics. He was in the hospital for 10 days for this! When he came home, he had Home Health nurses come by twice a day to give him anti-biotics by IV. The Meda-port was taken out before he left the hospital and a PICC line was put in. The home nurses came by for 3 days, then I took over and played nurse!! They make sure that the care-giver (me, by that time) knows just how to do everything. It is a completely needle-less system. The wiring only goes together one way. You cant make a mistake. Jim had watched how they did it at the Hospital for weeks and could guide me as needed.
Jim had a Doctors appt yesterday. He is doing great hes eating well and walking around some. We went out to eat twice today. Now that the infection has cleared up, he can do whatever he wants. The Dr has set up another round of Chemo for 5 days starting Dec 27th. Its great that hell be home for Christmas.
I didnt have much chance to update his condition when he was in the hospital. I was at the hospital most of the time. "
