Practically Perfect at the Poly? **UPDATE 7/28 -- And We're Back!!

Loved your review and experience at Kona. One of my very favortite Disney restaurants for breakfast and dinner.

Those were the exact two entrees we ordered when we dined there in 2008. I was surpisingly not blown away by the scallops and shrimp with the sauce even though I love passionfruit with a passion. May have been an off night for us and the restaurant (we were drenched from Tropical Storm Faye) I'll have to give that entree another shot. Had the coconut chicken salad last time. YUM!

And all of the desserts there sound spectacular! It's hard to choose, even when you are full. But brulee is never the wrong way to go.

I'm glad we get to read about another meal here on a future trip.

The EWP is so cute and the music just makes you smile!

I loved the tuna oscar when I had it way back in 2009, SO yummy, one of my favorite meals of that trip. I agree about the ambiance and service but the food did more than make up for it.

I'm totally up for Flying Fish, I've never been there and would love to try it!

We woke up to our magical Mickey wake up call and were dressed and out the door pretty quickly, especially considering it was before seven. There are few things we do quickly; get ready in the morning is actually one of them.
One of the perks, in my opinion, of staying at the Poly is the Kona Island Coffee bar. Mark and I are not huge breakfast eaters; we like a good cup of coffee and perhaps some pastry or cereal or something and we’re good. Max feels differently about breakfast...but more on that in a bit.
Aside from the awesome coffee, Kona is also in a great location next to the monorail. So, it really was the perfect place to stop on our way out to rope drop at the Magic Kingdom.

Mark and I got iced lattes of some sort and we got a croissant for Max and he had a banana. This was our first time on the regular dining plan, after two trips with the deluxe plan and then last July with no dining plan. While using snack credits for quick breakfasts like this makes a lot of sense, we did eat up a number of snack credits this way.

Max enjoyed his banana:

We hopped onto a pretty empty monorail and were disembarking at the Magic Kingdom in just a few minutes. I have to admit that the monorail really is a nice perk.

We were a bit early for rope drop, but not too bad. We were able to get pretty close to the tunnell, where Max made some new friends with some of the CMs who were holding the line.

Max finished his breakfast and we hung out for a bit.

And then the magical music started...welcome...welcome....it was amazing. I love the rope drop show, even if we only really heard it. It just a moment full of such pure anticipation. I could not wait to get on the other side of that rope, if only to stroll down Main Street.

This was my best shot of the show:

And we’re walking and somewhere on Main Street I was simply overcome. I had that totally awestruck moment where I realized...WOW. I am HERE. I am truly in the most magical place on earth, home magic wrapped up in pixie dust. I teared up a bit. The feeling was just incredible; the weather was perfect, skies were blue and we had a full day ahead of us.

For as crowded as it looks here, it is amazing how quickly the pack just dissipates once you’re in the park.

We made our way toward the castle...but where would we go? Dumbo had yet to reopen, so where in the world were we headed?

I am loving the picture of Max in his stroller, wearing his shades & eating his banana. So cute!

I love the Rope Drop show at MK. I hope they never do away with it. It's so exciting to walk into the park right when it's opening.

Great pictures! I can't wait to hear where y'all went 1st. I know Max loves CoP but I'm thinking you might have put that off until later in the day. Maybe Peter Pan or Buzz 1st? :confused3

Wow, nice job getting up and at 'em so early, which you totally needed to do on a busy week like President's week.

I'm going to go with Peter Pan, I can't remember what you have said in the past about whether Max likes this, but this is what we usually do.

I am definitely not a "just a coffee for breakfast" kind of person! But that definitely sounds like you're able to get moving a lot faster than I am!

Love the MK opening show. It truly is the best way to start a day at the parks!

Hmm...I'm guessing Peter Pan!

I'm going with Peter Pan or Winnie the Pooh! Of course, if it was me I would be heading to Space Mountain.

Love the opening show. When I stayed at BLT I walked over there one morning just so I could see the show, then I went back and got ready for breakfast and pool hopping. :goodvibes

Be back later to see pics!

Getting caught back up again.

We ate at Kona's for the first time 2/19 for diner. We loved it!:lovestruc The food was great. We were seating in the back against the wall so it gave us a better atmosphere. My DD Michelle had the Tuna and loved it. I have the banana chocolate creme brulee too. I really liked it. Our server was a little slow but really great with helping with everything. I would most definitely go back there.

I love the opening show at MK. It brings tears to my eyes every time.

What day are you on right now?

The only way to survive President's week (and actually get any rides in lol) is up early, with coffee! Well done!

Ok doesn't Max love the People Mover? That's my guess!

Great update, Tina. LOVE the coffee at the Poly...and good that you got there early being President's Week. Love the photo of Max with the lei on him.

how cool you made it to rd! And that opening ceremony is so wonderful. Can you believe that in the course of my trip in December we never once saw the ceremony? I truly missed it.

And since it looks to be your birthday.

Thanks...I got some pretty cute pictures of Max this trip. And his little get up for that first day was just hillarious. The sunglasses and the lei were all his doing. :goodvibes

Rope drop is the only way! :goodvibes Seriously, is there some other way to tour? If so, I don't know it!

Somehow, we only manage to get moving that quickly when we're at Disney....:rolleyes1

We certainly stayed in Fantasyland! The opening show is great. I could see doing that actually.

Getting caught back up again.

Glad you also had a great meal at Kona. I'm still only on the morning of day two, our first full day!

Is there any other way? :lmao: The People Mover? First? Hmmm....

Coffee at the Poly is pretty awesome. Love the lei. He was really into them while we were there.

Happy Birthday, Tina. I hope you have/had a great day.

Thanks Kathy!

:bday::cake::bday:

I can believe you missed it. There are all sorts of things we miss. There are plenty of things we missed. Like Illuminations and nearly every parade. :lmao:

And thanks...it is my birthday!

Just saw that it's your birthday.....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

:bday:party:

Reid almost shared a birthday with you! I was set to be induced on 3/19 back in 2008 but he decided to do his own thing & arrived on 3/16 instead.

So, I wanted to take this opportunity to share my basic plans for my quickly approaching April break trip! For those of you who may have missed mine spine-tingling PTR, I am returning to Disney on April 15. I got extremely lucky when the aunt of a co-worker gave her a week at SSR. Gotta love the DVC owners who apparently don’t use their points. When she told me she was going, I had already purchased an AP and I was able to get a cheap flight, so there you go.

One of the extraordinary things about this trip is that I am going on my own. My co-worker will be flying down Saturday and staying the week; I’m going down later in the day on Sunday and flying home that Thursday. As a mom (and a de-facto parent to another hundred kids at school) I sometimes feel as though I am never alone. Needless to say, this trip will remedy that to some extent and I’m looking forward to it. I’m also super excited to be going with an enthusiastic (although not a planner), energetic, thrill rider like my friend Lauren! It will be quite a different experience without Max. Or Mark, for that matter. I love them both, obviously, but the idea of freedom at Disney??? That just sounds so tantalizing.

Admittedly, I was a tad disappointed when I found out we were staying at SSR. I was sort of secretly hoping for AKL, but alas...who I am to complain about free lodgings at Disney? BUT, I got some rather unexpected news today when my friend sent me the reservation details: we are staying in a one bedroom villa! Woo-hoo. I kid you not when I say that the villa is almost as big as my house. Her aunt is also on it and requested the Springs (closest to the main pool, main building) and close to transportation. Fingers crossed that my run of pixie dust continues and we’re granted our room request.

Herewith, our plans:

Sunday, April 15 -- I arrive around six p.m. We currently have an 8:00 ADR at Kona, but I might change it. We will then head to MK for evening EMHs, one of my favorite things! Too bad BTMRR is still under refurb.

Monday, April 16 -- I have planned this day as a later start due to EMHs the evening before. I would like to get over to EPCOT by around ten, maybe, and check out the Flower and Garden Festival in full swing! Don’t care if I don’t get to ride much other than Spaceship Earth, I just absolutely love walking around EPCOT. We’ll grab CS lunch somewhere.

Now, my one dilemma for this day is the evening. There are EMHs at DHS that I want to go to. I think this will be my only time to get to DHS, actually. However, that leaves the question about dinner. I’m going to purchase a TIW card for this trip, as well as July and October, so I kind of want to make the most of it and do a TS everyday. That said, our options at DHS are a bit limited. Perhaps a late lunch at EPCOT would make sense? I don’t have Via Napoli on the list and I have become addicted to their carciofi pizza. Yummy....truffle oil and hot waiters.

Well, think I just made up my mind on that one.

Tuesday, April 17 -- This will be our day to (hopefully) hit RD at MK. Lauren would like to try out the spa at SSR. I would, too, but the prices are giving me pause. That said, I’d go for a massage. I am thinking about trying to make a mid-afternoon reservation. That evening we are back at EPCOT for an 8:30 ADR at La Hacienda. FEBRUARY TRIP SPOILER ALERT: I really did love this place when we tried it February.

Wednesday, April 18 -- This will be our day at AK. I am truly excited about being able to explore this park in a way that I’ve never been able to before. Mark isn’t a big fan and Max would spend all of his time in the Boneyard. Can’t blame him, but there’s a lot more I’d like to see.
That evening is my last night and I wanted to do something special for Lauren, giving her generosity, so we will be off to the Cali Grill for a great dinner complete with a viewing of Wishes!

Thursday, April 19 -- Departure Day -- Sigh... well, all good things must come to an end and I’m sure I will be itching to get back to Mark and Max by then. I really want to head back to EPCOT. Can you believe I’ve been to EPCOT three times since 2010 and haven’t ridden Soarin’ once?? Blame my short son. Lauren, however, might prefer time at MK, so we’ll see how that plays out.
I’m thinking of adding an ADR for a late lunch at Chefs. Despite having a not so great meal there in 2010, their lunch menu really does look good.

So, there you have it. Feedback is encouraged!

Ooooh, and one last some what IMPORTANT question... is it worth doing more TS because of my TIW card? Just curious to hear from folks who have them.

Tina, I think the plans sound great for the gils tirp. Mark and I are actually toying with SSR for our September trip. I'm trying to told off on making our room reservations as I've seen SSR go for $7.00 a point a few weeks before a trip.

We'll be at Downtown Disney the night you arrive, dining at either EOS or WPE.

I think your plans for April sound great! :thumbsup2 Sorry, I can't help with the TIW question.

Girls trip looks fun! I would highly recommend lunch at the Brown Derby. Or dinner. I loved our lunch there on our girls trip, we are tentativley planning a dinner there for Oct. One bedroom, how lovely!!!

Your plans look like a lot of fun! And the spa... oh!! How fun!! A true girls only trip. :goodvibes
