PPH room questions...

We've got reservations to stay at the PPH next month. Having never stayed there before I had a couple of questions...

There will be 5 of us, me, dh, dd 11, dd7 and my son who is 25. I spoke with the hotel directly and they told me that the PPH has no roll-away beds. If we wanted to, would there be enough room to use a twin size air mattress?

Also, when I made the reservation I requested a cabana room so that we could enjoy having a terrace area in addition to the close proximity to the pool. The CM at central reservations told me that the cabana rooms are often used by guests who smoke because they can smoke on their little terrace. Would the potential smoke from another guest waft into the other cabana rooms if a window/sliding door were left open?

Thanks :flower3:

While there is no roll away option, there is a couch that "flips" into a bed. I would call it a small twin, but it is pretty comfortable. I just slept on one last weekend! There is complete bedding and two pillows for it in the closet. I would think an air mattress would not really fit anywhere. It's true that the third floor cabana rooms have patios with furniture and ashtrays on the tables. That said, we have stayed in one twice and never have experienced a smoker out there. But if one were to smoke, it would be completely within their rights and I don't feel it would be appropriate to say anything to them. The patios are very large (think condo size), but it is "open air" and the smoke may waif over into your patio. If the smoke issue is a HUGE deal for your family - I would skip the cabana room.

Just my opinion. We love PP - have a fabulous trip.:)

Pictures of the couch! It took me THREE visits (not three tries, not three nights, but three entire visits) to finally figure out how to flip the dang thing. And so, I share.

What it looks like as a couch.

And yes you sort of flip it...grab hold of the back and pull in some way...weird little bed.

What it looks like with a new 5 year old who is on the tallish side faking sleep on it.

Lulu and Molly, thanks for the replies :)

I'm thinking the cabana room (if we're actually assigned one) will most likely be fine...

Thanks for the photos of the pull-out couch/bed Molly...I love how your son is laying on it for size reference!

I guess we'll just be creative with the sleeping arrangements. With dh being 6' 6" and myself 5' 10" sharing a queen size bed with him = not a lot of sleep. Surely a small air mattress can be used for one of the smaller kids? I hope.....

Jenpace,

I'm SURE you will forget, which is fine, but if by some chance you do NOT forget, when you get back from your trip next month, could you let me know how your husband (6'6") does on the rides? I desperately want my husband to go, but he is 6'5" and 240-250 pounds. We went to Knott's Berry Farm together and he only fit on half of the rides and was turned away from the others (rightfully so) because he didn't fit in he seats or the restraints wouldn't go down completely. I'm wondering if he'd encounter the same problem at DL. Mostly concerned with Space and Indy (the two he'd like the most).

Have fun!

Sonny, it sounds like your dh and mine both have similar proportions. The only rides that my dh cannot ride because his knees get smashed are Space Mountain and the Astro Orbiter. Having said that, he's been on both but won't do it again because of the lack of leg room for him. At DCA there aren't any rides that he can't fit in.

DL is different from a lot of other theme parks in that their rides and attractions are built for a wider range of body types...no pun intended ;) Your dh should be fine with just a couple of exceptions :)

Feel free to ask any other 'big guy' questions and I'll pass them on to my husband.

Thanks for the reply! Bummer about Space since it's a favorite of mine but MY knees almost touch and I'm only 5'7" so I'm sure he'd be uncomfortable!

Yep, most likely Space is out. But he'll be fine on Indy. Have a good time!

sonnyjane...

Legs always seem to be an issue with Space. Hubby isn't quite 6' but he's built like a sumo with legs that can't be squished (Mulholland Madness was impossible, therefore) and weighs more than your hubster. But if your hubby doesn't have that sort of leg he might be able to finagle them around so he can get the lap bar down.

Indy is a seatbelt. Only problem he might have is if he sits and *then* pulls the belt over. Best way to do it if you have any extra weight on you is to grab the belt first and pull it out all the way, then sit, then clip in. Much better than fumbling around. :)

Disney is very size friendly when it can possibly be...

Interesting, I am a bit over 6' and my son is 6'5.
Only ride I find confining for leg room is Astro....
My son fits in Space just fine but he is ~190#s. Former Basketball player.;)
Matterhorn can be a problem depending on where you are sitting in the car, even for a 6'er, especially with 2x riders.

All the other rides we have no problem in DL...
Mulholland is tight even for me...my son has to sit with his knees towards the inside of the ride vehicle on that one...but it can be done.

You guys think your DH has it bad~mine is 6'8" and 260#! The one ride he absolutely can't do is Indy. He has a long torso, and with all the jerking around it does a major number on his back!

When getting ready to use the elevators, hit the up button, yes, I said up, it will be much faster than the going down.:thumbsup2 The elevator situation at PPH is horrible.

Good reminder.

Also, use the glass elevator if you can; most people don't even know it's there (it's off by itself, sort of sitting in the middle of the lobby), and those that do are generally frightened of it. I am too, but I face the door and refuse to look at anything that might possibly reflect the view through the glass! :)
