DH and I are thinking of going to DL this December. We haven't been since 1995 so things have changed considerably. It will only be the two of us and we are both 50 but truly enjoy Disney. We are used to going to WDW so I'm asking for everyone's personal opinion but based on us as a couple with no children and of course our age and I'm REALLY a kid at heart.

I've looked at DGC but I'm thinking I really don't want to spend that kind of $$$ and we really want to stay with within the resort and not a good neighbor hotel. It's that Disney "immersion" thing for us. I've looked over the photos of both hotels and their locations and I am still undecided. Please give my your advice/food for thought considering we haven't been in soooo many years.

Thank you for your thoughts,
Jan

We are also entertaining going in Dec. and are looking at those same two hotels...We've stayed at Grand CA 4x and it is definitely the best, but we don't want to spend the $ at this time...so I would also be interested to hear about PP & DH...

Both are nice. We stay at PP when DL Hotel is too expensive. If you are a kid at heart you will love Dl Hotel. The whole place is themed with characters. The grounds are beautiful and the Neverland Pool can't be beat in my opinion. The rooms are comfortable and Tinkerbell spreads her Pixie Dust around your room. There is a lot to do here. You could eat at Hooke's Point or Goofy's Kitchen. From many rooms you can see the fireworks and DD.
Another plus is the monorail is close by.
PP rooms are larger and they are very comfortable. You would have to cross the street to get there. The theme is more beachy. The pool area is nothing spectacular to look at. You will either get a pool/parking lot view or a CA park view. The park side is nice. If you plan to do any laundry the only downfall is you will need to go to the DL hotel for that. PP doesn't have any.
December is our favorite time to go. The parks are beautiful, Reindeer Roundup is relaxing and the fireworks and snow are neat. IASW and HM are made over for Christmas too.
The hotels both have beautiful trees. PP does a ocean theme tree. And in the evening carolers go to all 3 hotels. Very enjoyable.

is DH worth $200 something more dollars than the PP if its just 2 adults who would most likely take a mid break to go swimming?

Both hotels are very nice, but I like Paradise Pier better. I prefer the beach theme and love that some rooms have a view of California Adventure.

LVTiffy, I think only you can decide if the Disneyland Hotel is worth the extra money. In my opinion, it all depends on which hotel theming is more appealing to you. When I'm at Disneyland Resort I'm with another adult and we are only in the room at night and mid afternoon. Paradise Pier Hotel is a good fit for us. While the pool area isn't as elaborate as the one at the Disneyland Hotel, we still enjoy it. I'm sure you'll have a great time no matter which hotel you choose. :)

For us, if we want to stay on property, it HAS to be DLH. For the same reason mentioned above, it is really the only hotel that is really big with Disney theming. WE love that the characters from Goofy's Kitchen will take a stroll through the lobby. So you will see characters at check in. The pool is really cool with the pirate ship and slide. The grounds with koi ponds and waterfalls are beautiful. Mickey holds the lights in the bathroom and we love the pixie dust around the ceiling. We walk under the Scorcerors Hat each day- love that! Plus it is a closer walk if you want to take a mid day break. As someone else said, only you can decide if it's worth $200. Some folks can do it while others can't

I also prefer DLH. Most importantly, I like the swimming holes better. I like that it has an outdoor area at the hotel to scroll around maybe not as much as your average WDW resort, but still worth taking in. I like the immediate entry to DTD without having to cross a street.

However, once DCA gets itself back together with a proper lake then it might be pretty nice to look out that direction from PPH and perhaps get a view of the new fireworks/water show.
