PPH and DLH Split Stay?

Due to some recent (good) circumstances, I am looking at onsite options for our February trip. Hooray!

My #1 choice is the Disneyland Hotel, but currently it is not available for our entire five-night stay. This seems to change a lot, so maybe it will pop up, but I'm trying to make a decisions in case it is not available.

Should we...
(A) Stay at PPH (premium view) the whole trip?
-OR-
(B) Do a PPH (premium view, two nights) and DLH (probably standard view, three nights) split stay?
-OR-
(C) Consider GCH despite the closed pools?
-OR-
(D) Another option you have thought of because you are much smarter than me?

(Background: People traveling are me, DH, and DD4. We've never been to DLR. We are doing four day Park Hopper tickets with two days at DL and two days at DCA. We do like to spend time at our hotel and experience what it has to offer.)

Just wanted to add the additional idea of PPH Standard View concierge with a cabana room request. The PPH premium view is an awesome view. Seriously amazing. But I think your daughter would like the DLH better because she won't care about the view. And to get the view you have to take an elevator all the way up (which isn't always easy at PPH). We always choose the PPH standard view club level and get a cabana room which gives us a patio the leads out to the pool area. Club level gets you the lounge. Which for our family takes care of breakfast, midday snacks and drinks in the park (which is a giant cost savings, not sure it would make that much difference with your family make up). But for that many days I would choose concierge over premium view, personally. You also might like access to the lounge if your DD comes back daily for a nap.

So I am going to go with B as your best option. It is not what I would do for my family but I can see that our circumstances are different.

And no, I wouldn't do GCH.

We just stayed at PPH last weekend. We have also stayed at DLH. If you can get DLH, do it! The Grand will be under construction so that would be a pain. We enjoyed PPH, but DLH was so much nicer. Your little one will love the castle headboards and the pools at the DLH. Try looking for availability each individual day. Their booking site is strange, sometimes I would put in all three days and it would have nothing and then I would look for each day individually and there was availability on all those days. As long as you book the same room type for all your days then you would not need to move rooms. Good luck!

We just did a 3/2 spilt between the PPH concierge theme park view and the GCV. It had been many years since we stayed at the PPH and I am happy to say, the service was amazing. All 5 nights were booked separately. The PPH because I wanted to take advantage of the Disney Visa offer of one FP per day per person and a $20 dining voucher. We ended up with 15 FPs and $60 in dining vouchers. :woohoo: Try looking at your dates separately. And the GCV because I had to waitlist both nights through DVC.

I would not choose the CGH with no pool and the renovations.

The DLH is fantastic.

While my stay at PPH wasn't great, I bet it would've been had we stayed in park view. I've seen many pics from those rooms and it looks pretty cool. If you can afford it, do that. We did stay at DLH once, but it's pretty pricey for a magical headboard.

Here's a question: how would a split stay work? Would Disney transfer our luggage, or should we walk it from PPH to DLH ourselves in the morning?

They transfer it if you want. Its sooooo easy. Like super. They guarantee it'll be there by 3.

We did a split stay PPH and DLH this trip and it worked well. We did standard view DLH and park view PPH. I would recommend PPH first and then move to DLH as the DLH is so amazing it was hard to leave.

The hotel knew we were going to PPH when we checked out of DLH but didn't offer to transfer our luggage. We just walked it over which was fine as it's a short walk and nice gardens.

The DLH was best for Disneyland (we used the monorail) and PPH for DCA (using GCH entry).

My favourite hotel was the DLH but the kids loved the PPH best and the view was wonderful. We could see both world of colour and the fireworks from our park view room. And the lights at DCA stayed on all night so the view was always pretty.

Seeing the park after hours was interesting. One night after DCA was closed we saw fireworks let off from inside the park near The Mickey wheel. We wondered if this was a test and they're thinking of introducing fireworks to world of colour? It's the extras like that that make the PPH park view so worth it.

What were some of the things that made your kids prefer the PPH over DLH? I'm taking my youngest DD (will be 11 at the time of the trip) on a mother-daughter trip next June. She knows about the trip, but I want to surprise her with the hotel. I had originally booked PPH, but then decided to splurge and go for the DLH. I thought with the theming and pools, my DD would prefer it over PPH. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
