PowerDirector video editing software?

Before I drop $70 on this, has anyone used it? It's PowerDirector 11 Deluxe, which seems to be recommended for the at-home user (as opposed to professionals).

I have a college class project that we may want to make a short video for, in addition we'd love to create home movies of our DD to share with the grandparents (who are all out of state and don't get to see LO much).

I know nothing about this type of thing, has any one used it? Or does anyone have anything they like to recommend? I don't need anything too fancy but I don't want anything so basic it's almost useless either. I want something that I can learn and grow with a bit.

Would you be able to get along using something like Windows Live Movie Maker? I use that to make trailers and short videos, and it's so easy and had all the features I wanted, I never tried anything else. Plus it came pre-loaded on my computer.

I've used an older version of PowerDirector for years. It's very easy to learn/use and recognized all sorts of input. I recently tried Adobe Premier Elements 10 and I had one heck of a time just getting it to recognize my camcorder...PowerDirector just figured it out.

I found the video editing features to be intuitive and straightforward...nothing fancy. There are lots of templates to download. I've been very happy with the old version and have the newest version in trial mode right now on my new PC which I will be purchasing when the trial is up. I'm ticked I spent money on Premier Elements.

Just be sure your PC has the CPU/RAM necessary. It makes a HUGE difference when streaming/editing video. Why not try the trial version and see if you like it? Good luck.
