Power Of $10-disappointed

You can't give to everything - you'd end up broke. People have to pick and choose their charities.

You never know. They may think the money is better spent in the attempt to prevent cancer so there needn't be a GKTW.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people just because they have selected a charity different than the one you select...or even if they give nothing to anyone.

GKTW is a very worthy cause...but there are a gazillion worthy causes out there. It's good of you to try to raise money for the one you've selected, but try to remember that other people have causes near and dear to their hearts, too.

Insulting people who don't donate to you may not be the best way to earn goodwill, either. Food for thought.

Remember, we have years to get that $10 from them (Like Pete said, it might take 5 years to get to a million dollars). If you were going to get them a birthday present this year, spend $10 less on them and donate that money to GKTW in their name.

As for me, I'm not even going to ask anybody, I'm just going to send in the $100 myself.

I've decided to do the same thing... I'm also going to start tossing all the spare change that I find in my purse into a jar, and then cash it in and send that.

It all adds up.

Thank you all for your feedback. This thread was meant for me to vent on how some people were rude about me asking. It wasn't rude that they said no they said rude and hurtful things to me and that was the point and vent of this thread. I am done with this thread

Sorry, I know you said you were through with the thread, but I just thought I'd add that the problem here may be that your original post did not read as "Man, these people were rude to me, and that hurt!" How it read was that you were disappointed that you asked people and they wouldn't contribute to your cause, and they didn't even respond to your blogging about it. You never mentioned rudeness. Even your title was "Power of 10 - disappointed", not "Family & Friends -- rude & hurtful".

Just my opinion. I don't think anyone thinks it's right for people to be rude to you.

Sayhello

Miracles take patience . . . keep trying new things!

It's still early in the game. (Even Pete tempered his comments with some reality in the "Sick Show" . . . if it takes 5 years, we're going to reach $1MM.)

I've had some great success, myself, and I have confidence that we'll all find our right combination that moves folks.

Plus, I have worked with NFPs on fundraising for a couple decades now. Maroo touches on an important point . . . you may not get them to commit to a donation right away, but there is value in educating folks on what GKTW is and how it works.

Maybe some folks aren't able to give or want to give, but they still could become advocates of your cause if they understand how great an impact they can have on people's lives!

Keep believing! It's a long year, with most of it ahead of us!!:goodvibes

I hope later in the year to have the money to give to GKTW. Even though I don't have any experience with it, I find that it is a wonderful organization that I would like to help. However, that is simply not possible at this moment. I budget pretty strictly and twice a year I look at what I have left over. That is the money that I use for donations or other random stuff. The current money I have will be going to the ASPCA as I am a member. If I have more that I can give, then I will give it to GKTW.

I certainly appreciate your effort. It's going to take work from all of us. None of us thought it would be easy. Just try not to get too discouraged. Maybe it is just bad timing that you asked, and maybe you can try again in the future. Thanks again for asking! :thumbsup2
