We just got home Friday from our first trip with our daughter's power chair. She did a fantastic job with it despite the crowds and absolutely loved being in control rather than being pushed.

The rest of my family flew and I drove our suburban down taking two days each way. I left on the 21 and arrived on the 22. They flew down on the 23. Our eldest had to return on the 29 but the rest of us stayed through New Year's. I started driving back on the second and they flew back on the 3rd. This was my adventure for the year :D !

For our next trip I may drive again or we might try renting but one way or the other I think it's power chair from now on. She was just so happy:D !

I'm glad to hear you had a good time. My DH and I also just got home on Friday.
We are thinking of taking DD's power wheelchair in March. She is a different kid when she is in control.
What did you find in terms of ride accessibility with the power wheelchair? Were most of the rides where a manual wheelchair can go on also acesible for a power wheelchair?

Did your DD fly with her chair or did you drive it down. I'm still anxious about taking my PC on the plane and love to hear how others did. Glad to hear your trip was so good.

I have taken my PC on several flights, and all the airlines I've used have done a great job. They usually want me to drive my PC down to the plane where they "gate check" it so that it will be ready and waiting right on the jetway when we get to our destination. Be sure to be ready to tell them what kind of batteries you have. (Wet cell or dry cell) It makes a huge difference as to what they have to do in order to have safe storage on the plane.

Nanajo1...I drove her chair down. It was the primary reason for driving.

Sue...she rode all the things she normally does without any problem.

DramaTech, that is very encouraging. Have you then rented an accessible vehicle or used public transportation.

Sorry about this disjointed response. I've had trouble posting all week:( !

I have used public transportation for the most part. I have not rented an accessible vehicle.

For WDW, Mears will transport PCs with no problem. Just note that you have one when you make a reservation. Then, once on property, almost every Disney bus has full access with a lift or ramp.

I even went to Las Vegas this past year, and they also had a few companies that would shuttle me from the airport in my PC. The public transportation buses there were okay, too...although there was a noticible lack of the safety that I felt while in Orlando and especially at WDW.

Thanks, Chet!
