Power chair drop off exception

I use an electric power chair and will be renting the same chair at Disneyworld so mine does not get damaged flying with it.

I checked with the company that Disney allows to drop off at the bell desk and they do not rent power chairs.

Is there anyone I can contact to get an exception for the drop off policy since the contracted company cannot meet my needs?

We are flying in from California and the flights do not arrive until later in the day and I really need the chair to be available at the resort when I arrive. We are staying at pop century and I won’t be able to make it to our room without the chair.

Disney doesn’t make exceptions for this. Contact the other companies to see if they can accommodate you by dropping the chair off at a specific time that you will be at the resort. Also see if they have someone that you can text once you’ve arrived at MCO, ETC. there are a few companies that will do that.

The earliest we can get in is 550 pm and with travel time to the resort I don’t see how we can meet anyone in person during their operating hours.

the company I found scootaround said they only drop off until 5pm right now.

I use a jazzy elite hd power chair and will be bring my seat cushion with me. So I’m at a loss for what to do. I wish Disneyworld had selected a vendor that offered more than just ECV and manual chairs.

Agreed. I prefer a powerchair myself so that I don’t have to worry about a “Scooter Nose” when making sharp, tight turns. Gold has a powerchair option, but its only rated for 300 lbs. (Although they recently bought out Scooter Rental Orlando, and they had powerchairs rated for up to 450 lbs, so they MIGHT have one of those still availabl, or my hope, that they merged those into their fleet, I’d call them just to be safe.)

I looked up Scootaround, and the latest drop off time is 5pm too.

How are you navigating the airport, etc? You might want to bring your power chair after all, so that you can get to the airport, around the airport, and to the resort? If you are bringing a manual wheelchair for that, then perhaps use that until you can meet up with the company you chose?

You may already have one at home but I'd be using a manual wheelchair until you get the rental power chair. There's no charge for bringing the manual wheelchair on the airplane. A portable transportable wheelchair can be bought for $200 or less if you have to purchase one. Then, you will have one for whatever else may occur, as well.

The preferred vendor for Disney rents wheelchairs and those can be dropped off and available at your resort when you arrive at your resort. This could hold you until you get your power chair.

Other choices include bringing your own power chair. Have someone in your party take an earlier flight even if it's a day early and arrange for you to have the rented power chair delivered. A final choice is to drive to Disney World and bring your own power chair that way.

The airline will provide a wheelchair for getting around.
I have taken my own chair in the past and it always gets damaged by the airlines.

I recommend checking out other vendors who may have a wider delivery schedule available. I realize powerchairs are not as widely offered as ECVs or manual wheelchairs, but several offer powerchairs and the Jazzy Elite is one I've seen listed on several websites. While I don't have personal experience with later delivery, based on reports here I believe there are some vendors who have been very accommodating in scheduling.

Gold Mobility also rents power chairs, info not know if it is the same model as you have, but they are currently dropping off until 7 PM and picking up as early as 7 AM and under the circumstances they might be able to make an exception for earlier or later, I don't know, but you could call and ask them.

On their site, they show the Jazzy Select Elite as what they rent, but I do know they sell other power chairs, so again if you call and speak with them they might be able to accommodate.

The bottom line I am getting st is call Gold Mobility, they are generally very accommodating and if they can come up with a solution, they will.

So you can walk from the bus/car to check in? Maybe get a wheelchair rental from an approved company for that first evening, then get your powerchair the next day?

Yeah it looks like that or call gold mobility. Hopefully by June the companies will extend their drop off hours to later in the day.

I was speaking with Gold and they don't have the HD model in their rental line up, they do have the other with a 300 on limit though.

Something else that has just occurred to me is I have seen some people saying they have been able to have companies drop off at the Swan and Dolphin even when they aren't staying there. You might call them and see if you can work something out, then have the company drop off there. Obviously if you do this I would suggest giving a nice tip to their bell services, I am not sure if they would charge anything since you aren't staying there, but may be an option.

Wow thank you so much for doing that. I found the chair at scootaround so hopefully their service is ok.

The swan and dolphin idea is great to know and I’ll keep that in mind as an option if we cannot find another solution.

I wanted to follow up this post and let everyone know that disability services did make an exception for the dropoff. The reason for the exception was not explained but I’m pretty sure that it was because the preferred vendor does not rent powerchairs.

Oh, did you by any chance ask Scootaround if they had any other hd powerchair models or is that their only one?
