Power Bank Recommendations

Yes, I have read that about keeping the phone charged. Funny thing is the current phone I now have is nearly 5 yrs old and the battery has lasted longer then any prior phone. Maybe just a coincidence but is working great so far. I always keep it plugged in when at home and my car charger works fine.

I got a 5K Anker unit that does wireless charging or wired... was about $30 last year for BlackFriday.

But most times my phone doesn't need it to finish a day out...

Unless you need to use your phone for an extended amount of time away from home, not sure why you would need these devices. I have a basic phone cord in my car and simply plug it in to charge while driving. The battery lasts all day when charged. I keep it plugged in at home so it stays fully charged.
I made a bad assumption the OP was asking due to reasons associated with a long day at Disney. It's the only place we use our phones where it doesn't always make it all day with a charge, so it's the only place we have a backup just in case. Pictures, video, app, constant checking for wifi..... Don't want to miss a special photo because the phone is done for the day!!

Not a bad assumption at all!

I'm actually asking for my MIL (because I look "techy" from her perspective :rotfl: ... but I'm really not) who wanted an idea for the grandkids. - She's had trouble reaching a couple of my nieces because their phones are always dead.

I think I am going to recommend the Anker Nano because it will fit easily in a purse or pocket. I know she has to find out whose phone uses a lightning connector and whose uses USB-C, but otherwise it looks pretty simple to work with.

Remember that not everyone spends all day every day indoors or in a private car. If you're spending a day out and about walking, such as in a major city (or in a theme park, funnily enough, given the board this is), or traveling all day, or outdoors, stopping to plug in a cable is a time-suck, even assuming you can find an open charger, which is no sure bet. At WDW, especially, finding an unclaimed open power outlet in a park is nearly impossible.

In my normal daily routine I won't use up battery power in a 10 hour day, but in a theme park, or entertaining myself on a plane, the power draw is immense. Continuous use in WDW parks will normally kill my battery in about 5 hours.

One other thing: LABEL your power banks! My DD & DH managed to lose 3 power banks in 2 days at WDW a while back. I was furious with the both of them; not only did we have to scramble to keep our phones charged to stay in touch all day with just my battery, but it cost me over $100 to replace them all at once as soon as we returned home. I'm sure they probably were found, but none of them were labeled, so getting them returned was hopeless.

Also, BTW, buying a power bank with built-in cords is fine if they still have an older phone; you can just add adapter dongles, like these: https://www.amazon.com/Certified-Li...ocphy=9022896&hvtargid=pla-1731812336619&th=1

If you have a Marshall's/HomeGoods/TJMaxx near you, they sell portable chargers and they work really well and are fairly inexpensive.

However, we just returned from Disney and I have to say the Fuel Rod wins, if not for the charging capability then for the convenience of not having to remember to charge a portable charging device each night. Maybe I'm just lazy but with the fuel rod it's just one less thing to worry about and I found the stations very conveniently located.

We had purchased a 2-pack on Amazon before the trip.

. At Disneyland though we like the fuel rods. They’re small, the cables are short and I can easily fit both in my pocket. Plus you can swap them out at the park if you need to. Genie+ can definitely be a drain on your battery.
you can buy Fuel rods on Amazon ahead of a trip for less than the initial cost in the parks, and you can still swap them in the machines at DL and at WDW…
