My daughter has been fully pottytrained for about 6 week. She's done extremely well with a few accidents. I'm wondering what to do with sleeping in the hotel beds. are the mattresses encased in rubber? i'm not sure she'll wear a pull-up and would be extremely upset at the suggestion, i think. I have thicker trainers she'll wear and i'll ask to have an extra sheet in the room if the mattress is safe. i'd think it would be but i dunno for sure. I'm sure someone here's faced this before ;)

I guess you'll have to call the hotel or ask housekeeping at check-in to see if the mattress pads are waterproof. I've taken all 5 kids on vacations during various stages of training and would not trust thick trainers to protect from wetness. If I thought it necessary, the kids wore pull-ups to bed. If you want to avoid scenes and wetness, you might want to put a pull-up on her after she goes to sleep.

Myself, I would put a couple of bath towels on top of the bed
Or maybe you could contact the front desk and see if they have a waterproof mattress pad or protective covering?

You can get large, flat waterproof pads (they are thin - like oversized lap pads) at BRU or Carter's outlets. Perfect size to put between her sheet and the mattress, so that any accidents are fully contained and easy for mousekeeping to clean up!

Or get a package of chux waterproof pads from a medical supply place (or pharmacy, perhaps?). They are disposable, too, and would do the trick!

I second Colinsmom's suggestion. I call them pee-pads for short. I used to keep these between my matress and matress pad when I was pregnant incase my water broke during the night (which it never did, thank goodness). You can sometimes find them next to the Depends undergarments section in the stores. They also sell the same exact thing in petstores but call them puppy pads.

The trick is making sure to put enough down to cover the entire surface area that she might sleep on. I've used them with my daughters and a few times that they wet the bed, they happened to not be on a section where the pads were.

These are also VERY easy to pack. Good luck!

We have one of those thin waterproof pads on DSs bed. It feels soft. He is 5 and has never wet his bed (although he is a DEEP sleeper so I guess we're just lucky) but he has had a couple of stomach viruses and the mattress was protected when he got sick (sorry).

I'd be concerned about a white waterproof pad getting washed with the sheets by mistake.

I think the disposable ones would be good for vacation, but make sure they don't make a noise that will disturb your child's sleep. Might need a towel over it.

You can request waterproof mattress covers/sheets from Housekeeping at any of the resorts. They will also provide an extra set of sheets in case your child wets during the night and you need to change sheets.

Really!?! hmm, i think between the thick traines and this will work well for us! Thank you all for your replies!
doin' the 18 day dance! :cool1:

Yep, it's listed in the Guidebook for Guests with Disabilities as something that is available by asking Houskeeping.
I know of people who have requested them because they were afraid their child would wet the bed, so I know it's not just a service available for people with disabilities (after all, the Housekeepers don't really want to deal with a wet mattress).

PS, if you want to be extra careful, you could also put the thick trainers on her and then slip a pair of pullups over the top after she is asleep (as one of the other posters suggested).

Ditto on the plastic waterproof mattress pad. They are like a fitted sheet, only plastic. We use one on our son's bed now -- trained for about 5 months, but still has some accidents at night. They cost about $5 at Wal-Mart.

It's good to get the pad -- as the next person who sleeps in the room wouldn't want to sleep on a mattress that has been pee'd on.....

Didn't know housekeepping would supply them. Good to know.

Our son is 7 and occasionally has accidents, very rarely, and usually when we have messed up his routine in some way. When we go on a trip, we bring a trash bag that we put under the sheet and some towels where he sleeps. (When we have a king bed, he wants to sleep in our bed on vacation). When we were at GF, the maid noticed, and gave us a waterproof sheet to put on the bed instead, which I thought was very nice, and much better than what we had. Actually, our son didn't have an accident that trip, nor on the next two we've taken since, but, I still request the mattress cover now, just in case.

When we took our boys to WDW for the first time, our oldest DS had been trained for 1.5 years with NO accidents, ever. If we had to go in the middle of the night, we woke up went, and back to bed--all without a word. At WDW, though, we had his only accident. Just was too exhausted to wake up. We called mousekeeping in the morning, VERY apologetic, and they told us not to worry. It happens to at least 3 rooms a night. They asked if we wanted them to come up right away or take care of it with normal services. They thanked us for letting them know b/c all bedding is changed and the mattress is treated and disinfected.

It is still better to take a proactive approach, but just in case for someone else is wondering, Disney doesn't view it as too much of a big deal when it is a long term potty trained child. They're very understanding. FYI--we tipped extra well that day.

This is what I can do with my DD - she wears pullups at night but not during naps. If she takes a particularly long nap (over 2 1/2 hours) she will have an accident. So I can sometimes sneak in and put on pull up with out her noticing. I betcha you could do that at night time after your child is fast asleep - Just a thought! ;)

you can buy those cloth/plastic training pants at Wal Mart for a LOT less. I know, because I purchased a few three-packs for my dd when she was potty training.

I am going to buy the waterproof mattress cover for my dd though (for at home)...you just never know when the "sickies" are going to hit in the middle of the night!!! :goodvibes

I read this on the DIS before we went 3 weeks ago. I had decided on pull-ups for my 3.5 year old for overnight but I was a little worried about naps - since I figured he'd be so tired. Anyway- asked mousekeeping on the first day (the one who brought up our pack n play for the baby) and he was very confused. He didn't speak English very well and I asked for an extra set of sheets and a waterproof pad and he looked at me like I was crazy. He ended up bringing me an extra sheet and saying 'that ok?' and I just gave up and said 'yes - it's fine'.

Just an FYI that if anyone is planning for this - it might take a little effort and talking to the right person to get it done.
