My DD is potty trained but has only recently (in the last couple of weeks) stopped wearing pull-ups to bed. She does a pretty good job of not wetting the bed at night, but still has an occasional accident. We have the waterproof mattress pad that we use at home. Don't really want to bring it with us (I don't plan on doing laundry since we are only going for a weekend trip). And I don't want to put a pull-up on her and have a set back.

Has anyone else had this issue and what have you done to protect the hotel bed at night?

I would expect an accident if she is having them at home, they are SOOOOO tired at the end of the day, she may not wake up and my kids drink so much more when we are touring.

Personally I'd opt for the pull-up, but that is me. If you don't want to go that route then I'd pack some large black trash bags. I'd remove the sheet, place the bag on the mattress then cover them with hotel towels. Then remake the bed. Depending on where you are staying, you may have to a load of laundry if you have an accident to ensure that you have enough spares. If in a hotel you may want to request an extra set.

We traveled shortly after our 4 year old was potty trained. He pretty much trained at night when he did day and was close to three. He RARELY had accidents. I did pulls up just in case. I just did not want to deal with the wet sheets in the middle of the night. He wet the pull ups twice. We got back home and he was fine, did not wet again for a very long time.

How frequently is she having accidents? I don't think 2-3 days of pull ups at night should be a problem because if she's normally dry she should just wake up dry and you have her go to the bathroom right away. My older DS stopped wetting at night just after he was 1 year old, but he did have the occasional accident, so we just brought one of the smaller waterproof bed pads for protection. We have two that I got at Bed, Bath and Beyond that fold up to basically nothing.

My MIL brought puppy pads from their house for my son. He was 3 and fully trained with no accidents but I was afraid that being super tired might make him have one on the trip and I didn't want to have to call housekeeping for clean sheets.

My youngest was newly trained last time we were at disney world....within the past month. At home he was in underwear everyday but at WDW I wasn't taking any chances and just put him in pull-ups the entire week. Never once did he have an accident in them but it was nice for me as a just in case. Back at home he was in underwear. Never caused any kind of regression because of it. I personally don't think wearing pullups on vacation at night only would cause any problems.

I'd bring a mattress pad. I wouldn't want to go back to pullups, but I think you should do something to protect the matress.

I would do a pad, which someone also said. We got some from my grandads nursing home.
im not sure where you are located but we have goodnights by huggies, theyre for bedtime and they feel more like underwear then a pullup. I think theyre a little more expensive and for ages 4 & up but it may be less confussing for some kids?

We were going to wait to potty train DD until after our WDW trip when she was 2, but she had other ideas and pee-trained herself 2-3 weeks before we left. She was not in pull-ups anymore at night either (although she was still demanding them to poop in, but that's another story!). She never even had one bed-wetting accident. For WDW, we told her because it was someone else's bed and we were just borrowing it, she would have to wear a pull-up to sleep in just in case. She complained a little, but did it. It did not cause any set backs with her.

To be safe than sorry would put her back in pull ups while there as she may get to tired to wake up.. or not sure where you live but Meijers stores in the baby department have crib size flannel on one side rubber on the other bed protectors and come 2 in a pack for like $10 and using both side by side would cover where she would sleep. :worship:

Thank you so much everyone for your feedback! I think I will just bring a couple of pull-ups and use those at night. I have a couple of the waterproof pads at home that I would love to bring, but I really would hate to have to call housekeeping in the middle of the night for clean sheets. As a PP recommended above, I will just tell her that it is someone else's bed and that's why we are going to use the pull-ups for a couple of nights. Thanks again everyone!!!!

I think you're smart with the pull ups. For us it wasn't so much the mattress.... our dd hadn't had a night accident in MONTHS... but the though of if it did happen... we'd have to call housekeeping in the middle of the night, change the bed, and then try to get everyone resettled for the night. So a mattress protection wasn't an issue... it was the fact that we would all be up for probably an hour! :scared1:

Good luck and have fun!

We had the same issue when DD turned 3 and we arrived LATE in evening ( actually EARLY am) DD was using pull ups at night sometimes. When we settled in she REFUSED to wear the pull up... I thought Okay .. I don't have to do the laundry ... So I put towels under the sheets and told her.. " don't go PP in Mickey Mouses bed.. he might tell the princess'" WELL.. That was all it took she was trained ! no accidents

The chucks are a good idea ! Also ask for a second set of sheets when you arrive to keep on hand in case.

Oh and have a wonderful time My DD is 4.5 yrs old and still remebers that trip like it was yesterday.. every detail. And people told me to wait til she was older and remeber...glad I didn't listen.

Ditto on the pads, especially if you think she'll be bummed to move back into pull-ups. My kids are always so zonked (shoot, I am, too!) that I'm not surprised the little ones may have accidents.

My guys are older now, so that's behind us, but I had a washable pad that was just amazing, absorbent, and didn't make that crinkly sound underneath. If you don't mind tossing something into the laundry while you're there, that might be an option (although you'll probably pay more for the laundry use than buying disposables, I guess!).

Good luck and have fun!

I bring a couple of small waterproof pads, they are maybe 3 x 3 feet or so, they are soft on one side and waterproof on the other. Fairly cheap and got them at Target. Super easy to just switch one out for the other if needed. They are not crinkly sounding at all, if that makes sense! We used these at home to prevent having to change out all the sheets when DD was initially potty training. Never did pull-ups at all, they can be confusing for kids since they are really diapers that you pull up and down instead of having tabs. Have a great trip!

Put a big, sturdy trash bag down under the fitted sheet. I used to take a contractor's size trash bag with me. They are easy to wipe up or throw away, and they take up no room in the suitcase because you can fold them.

Wow, you guys were able to get them nighttime trained early!! Any tips? My son is 5 and has been daytime potty trained for 2 years. His motivation was starting Montessori school. Unfortunately he sleeps SO HARD at night that he wets himself pretty much nightly.

We have followed all of the advice. Restricted fluids after dinner, took him to potty before WE went to sleep (around 11 -- although he really doesn't "wake up" -- he kind of does the zombie thing.) Even then he wakes up soaked. We're doing a pull-up WITH a plastic cover at night. They say he will grow out of it... but i'd sure love to hurry the process along.

Tips?

If you want to go rather uber-drastic, there's some kind of electric device that goes off if a kid starts going the bathroom in bed. Sounds kind of scary to me, though.

Oldest daughter was a bedwetter, but we had a system down to keep her pretty dry at night, or so I thought. Last night of our first WDW trip, she soaked the bed, poor thing. I didn't know about it until the next morning, so I stripped the bed, left a note of apology for mousekeeping, and a big, big tip.

I think the bed had a waterproof mattress cover on it to start with, though, so it didn't get into the mattress. With all those kids down at WDW, they'd be going through a lot of mattresses otherwise!
