New to cruising - hope to book one for August.

There are 3 of us - all adults. We'd like to stay in the same room but I keep finding rooms that just have two twin beds (that can also be converted to a king.) The cruiselines say that 3-4 can stay in a room but how? Do they really expect 2 people to share a twin bed?

If you want more than 2 people in a room, are you forced to book a suite?

Royal Caribbean and Carnival will let me go through the steps of booking a room for 3 adults but they are also letting me book a regular room that says it's just 2 twin beds. What the heck?

Are all basic rooms built for 2?

Thanks!

I cruised on Royal Carribbean with my DS, and a friend and her DD. At first we thought that we'd all share a cabin, but we discovered that the price to add a 3rd and 4th person to the cheapest cabin was $699 per person, and the price for a second cabin for 2 was $1398 ($699 x2) -- buying that second cabin became a no-brainer, and we were so much more comfortable.

So if you're looking to share a cabin to save money, make sure it's actually saving you something. Cruise cabins are SMALL -- I wouldn't share unless I had to.

The cabins that we saw that slept more than 2 had bunk beds over the twin beds. Our cabin didn't have that -- it just had the 2 beds that could be queen or single.

Some of the smaller cabins also have a top berth that drops down from the wall.

The RCCL site won't let you book a room that doesn't have enough beds for your party size.

Most cabins that can be booked for 3 or 4 people have twin beds that can convert to a large bed if you want it too.

The 3rd bed is usually a convertible sofa of some sort or an upper wall bunk and the 4th bed is an upper bunk.

They won't let you book into a cabin that will not hold the number of people you want to put in it.

Okey dokey, figured it out! There are tiny little symbols on the deck plans that tell you which rooms hold more than 2 ;)

Duh!

Thanks for the info!

Exactly! Those symbols are small, aren't they? There usually aren't too many rooms that sleep 3 or 4 and they tend to go fast - especially inside cabins or outside cabins with a window only (no balcony). If you're interested, out a deposit on it to hold the room. Usually your deposit is 100% refundable (up until a certain date from the sail date), then it starts prorating the refund.

It may be tight in the room with 3 adults - and only one bathroom, but it can be vastly cheaper than booking two rooms and having to pay a single's rate for the odd man out.

Have fun!!!

I see you figured it out. I sailed RCI's Majesty with 2 other girlfriends for a 3 night cruise. We all stayed in the same room (very tiny) but we managed just fine. It would have been tough for a longer cruise though. All I can say about the fold-down bed is it's scary to sleep under it. I had visions of the thing crashing down on me. :rotfl: Have fun on your cruise!

Thanks for the head's up on the booking - we thought about waiting until the last minute to book and see what was left but after taking a look at the small number of teeny symbols on those deck plans, I think we may need to rethink that if we do plan to share a room. There aren't that many!

This is a super budget trip and we hope to not be in the room much so sharing a room is our first choice; though I will price it both ways and see if it's really worth saving that money =0

Call a cruise agency. They can tell you what cabins are largest, who has the best deals and maybe even find you some better prices than you found online. Sharing is tight, work all the angles for the best deals out there. Plan to reserve with an agent, they can give you lots of great advice having been on many ships and great rates.

I have found the boards at cruise critic dot com to have a wealth of information about any cruise line any ship. You may want to give them a look.

If the room says it sleeps 3-4 people they have to have enough beds per person legally. On Disney cruise ships the queen bed can be split into a twin bed.
