POTC: what's with the red head?

I think this whirlwind of political correctness we are caught up in is complete crap. How the &%$# do you make pirates PC? They rape and pillage for God's sake. It 's who they ARE. Jeez.

interesting maridw. I wouldn't know about the DL comparison since I have never been. I guess my family always thought that WDW was closer and better (mainly by better I guess we meant bigger). You make a good point, though. Maybe I will have to plan a trip out there at some point. Is it really that much different?

Yo Ho pirate:

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We pillage, we plunder, we rifle, and loot,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We kidnap and ravage and don't give a hoot,
Drink up me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We extort, we pilfer, we filch, and sack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Maraud and embezzle, and even high-jack,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We kindle and char, inflame and ignite,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We burn up the city, we're really a fright,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

We're rascals, scoundrels, villans, and knaves,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
We're devils and black sheep, really bad eggs,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me.
We're beggars and blighters, ne'er-do-well cads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.
Aye, but we're loved by our mommies and dads,
Drink up, me 'earties, yo ho.

Suprised someone hasn't made Disney change the lyrics.
( They do kind of muffle the sound so its hard to hear clearly. Definitely not the best choice for a child to go around singing)

Chad&Janet,
A couple of the major differences are that there are TWO drops at DL instead of just one and at the end you are in an area that can only be described as being underneath a bunch on timbers on fire and ready to come down and the pirates are sitting around on barrels & cannons similar to the end of POTC at WDW but you end up in a queue to go up a hill so the boats get backed up. The pirates are posed to be as if they are shooting at the boats and then the cannon or barrel rocks back and they shot up at the timbers. The background music is not as loud at that point and you mainly hear the timbers creaking.

It also seems to be longer than the WDW version. Also at the start of the ride, you go through an area kind of like a swamp, then go into a cavern and that is where the main part of the ride starts. After you come up the hill, going to where you disembark, there is a deserted beach scene with a skeleton of a pirate and a seagull. pirate:

I loved the chase scene the way it used to be (and I'm inclined to be offended by a lot of stuff.. especially the Miss America pagent where the women are paraded around.. but I digress). The joke lost its impact when they changed it.

I was just on this ride Saturday and I noticed that the last lady in line to be sold had a huge nose..... she actually looked like a man in drag pirate:

madcoco,
Thank you for the Music "YoHo" and the lyrics. That brightened my day, its cold and very windy here. I'll play this a couple of this today just to brighten things up. Thanks again!

Sandy

You're welcome. pirate:

It starts as if you are going thru the Lousiana Bayou (as you look out to your right, you can see the people who are dining on the "patio" of the Blue Bayou restaurant.....very cool!)...then you seem to go deeper and deeper into the "wilds" before you enter the Pirates scenes. I think the DL version is WAY better than WDW.....

About 4 years ago, when riding POTC, it broke down. :earseek:

We got stuck listening to "We wants the Red-head!!" for only 15 minutes........but it seemed like hours!!:crazy2:

But we still laugh about it!! And me being a red-head, my kids really get a kick out of it!!

I Totally agree with you on that. With the Bayou area being set in the night, it also gives a nice ambiance for the restaurant. It has been a few years since I have been to DL, but those were the main differences that I could remember.

I have noticed in the WDW version sometimes the lights are very dark and other times they are too bright. It seems like they can't decide how they should be. The DL version is always the same for the lighting, just dark enough, but not to where you can't see some of it. I especially like the last bit before you go up the ramp.

One year a bunch of us went and we had started singing "Do Wah Diddie (There she was just a walking down the street)". We were still singing it when we got into line. By the time we got close to boarding, the WHOLE line was singing the chorus with us. That is until the person singing the verses got stuck on one line and sang "I can't remember the next line", and the whole line broke up laughing. I think the CM's will remember that for some time.

I am more surprised that it now starts with Paris. France is not very PC on many levels. I am very happy that the mother company of Disney Parks now owns most of the shares in Disneyland Paris, but this was definitely not the change I was hoping for.

Disneyland Paris needs help, but not with becoming PC... there is more important stuff...

It was so much fun as a redhead to get on PotC, there was always at least one CM shouting 'we wants the redhead' at me. :( that is probably over now

Undoubtedly, the next thing the "politically correct police" will attack. I suspect that before long the phrase "we wants the redhead" will be replaced by the pirates yelling, "please, please, release those young ladies from the bonds of a male dominated society and give them the respect they so rightfully deserve". Of course, that will effectively take all the fun out of the ride but it is a small price to pay to not have anyone offended.

Only took 14 years.

Guess I'm the only one who is indifferent to the new change. Not sure why so many people are pissed off that there isn't a misogynist scene anymore? It's a classic I get it and if they kept it I would be fine with that but is it really the worst thing to update it?
